Manchester United transfer round-up: Winger offered as Sancho alternative

[ad_1]

Manchester United ’s weekend defeat against Crystal Palace has prompted more talk around reinforcements as questions are asked about the strength of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.

Two goals from Wilfried Zaha and one from Andros Townsend gave the visitors a 3-1 win at Old Trafford, though there was one positive in the form of new signing Donny van de Beek scoring on his Premier League debut.

United continue to be linked with Jadon Sancho, with disagreements over the valuation of the England youngster dominating, but some more names have come to the fore over the last few days and weeks.

We’ve got the latest on potential additions to Solskjaer’s squad as United attempt to improve on last season’s third-place finish.

Championship winger ‘offered’ to United as potential Sancho plan B

Manchester United are continuing to explore alternatives to Jadon Sancho as their pursuit of the Borussia Dortmund forward remains anything but a done deal.

Sancho has returned to the Dortmund set-up, and played 79 minutes at the weekend as Lucien Favre’s team beat Borussia Monchengladbach 3-0 in their Bundesliga opener.

The England international would cost United north of £100m, but another target has emerged who could be less of a financial risk.

1. Simon Weaver (Harrogate Town) – 11 years, 73 days

2. Gareth Ainsworth (Wycombe) – 7 years, 313 days

3. Sean Dyche (Burnley) – 7 years, 277 days

4. John Coleman (Accrington Stanley) – 5 years, 319 days

5. Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool) – 4 years, 299 days

6. Mark Cooper (Forest Green) – 4 years, 85 days

7. Chris Wilder (Sheffield United) – 4 years, 82 days

8. Pep Guardiola (Manchester City) – 4 years, 32 days

9. Paul Warne (Rotherham) – 3 years, 248 days

10. David Artell (Crewe) – 3 years, 207 days

According to 90min, Watford winger Ismaila Sarr has been offered to United on a season-long loan deal.

The Senegalese winger was one of the bright sparks for the Hornets as they suffered relegation from the Premier League last season, and was linked with Liverpool before Jurgen Klopp’s side moved for Diogo Jota.

And 90min’s report suggests United are “mulling over” a deal for the 22-year-old, who has been valued at around £40m if Watford decide to let him leave permanently.

‘Concrete progress’ made in discussions over left-back target

United’s search for a new left-back has reportedly moved forward, with reports in Portugal suggesting ‘concrete progress’ has been made over a deal for Alex Telles.

The Brazil international, who is in the final year of his current deal at Porto, has been linked with an Old Trafford switch after United failed to land Sergio Reguilon.

According to A Bola, via the Manchester Evening News, Telles would cost United £18m, and the publication suggests he will sign a five-year deal worth roughly £3.7m per year.

The full-back scored twice from the penalty spot as Porto came from behind to begin their Primeira Liga season with a 3-1 victory over Braga on Saturday.

He hit double figures in a single season for the first time in 2019/20, scoring 11 times in the league and on 13 occasions in all competitions.

Mourinho has no interest in Lingard despite reports of move

Over the weekend, reports surfaced that Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho was keen on a reunion with Jesse Lingard as a replacement for Spurs midfielder Dele Alli.

Mourinho took Alli off at half-time in Spurs’ opening Premier League game against Everton and left him out of the matchday squad altogether for Sunday’s win at Southampton.

With Spurs adding Gareth Bale to their ranks, competition for places is likely to be even more intense in North London, prompting suggestions the England midfielder could be among those allowed to leave if Spurs receive a suitable bid.

However, according to football.london, Spurs have no plans to restock with Lingard if such an exit is confirmed.

Lingard was a big part of the squad under Mourinho at Old Trafford, playing 33 times in the league as United finished second in 2017/18, but has been linked with an exit after dropping down the pecking order amid the arrival of Bruno Fernandes and reintegration of Paul Pogba.
