FIFA 21 TOTY Ultimate XI lineup confirmed with Lionel Messi a surprise omission

The FUT 21 Team of the Year (TOTY) Ultimate XI has finally been confirmed, kicking off the biggest promo of the FUT calendar.

For the first time ever in the history of the FIFA 21 Ultimate Team TOTY promo, FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi is not included in the FUT 21 TOTY Ultimate XI, with Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe included instead. But Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo is included in the FIFA 21 TOTY Ultimate XI for the tenth consecutive year, with the Portuguese forward now having more TOTY inclusions than any other player.

Haaland’s FIFA 21 rating assessed amid Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool links

Erling Haaland made his debut for Borussia Dortmund exactly one year ago today, scoring a sensational hat-trick in a 23-minute cameo, showcasing his huge talent.

Since then, Haaland has gone on to cement his reputation as one of the best strikers in world football, scoring a frankly ridiculous 35 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions, including eight goals in just six Champions League appearances and 25 goals in 26 league appearances for the German club to-date.

Such form has seen him linked with a host of English clubs ahead of the summer 2021 transfer window, with the latest reports suggesting that Chelsea are targeting the 20-year-old, despite spending big on new signings last summer.

* Click here to subscribe to Level up! The Esports and Gaming Show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts and Spreaker.*

The Athletic claims the Blues are ready to break the bank to land the Norwegian, with the report also stating that Haaland has a release clause in his contract, which enables clubs to sign him for £66.6m, the clause cannot be triggered until 2022, meaning if clubs want to jump the gun and sign him now they will have to pay significantly more.

Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool have been linked with Haaland in the past, so it could be an interesting summer for the Dortmund wonderkid if these sides decide to make a move when the next transfer window opens.

So, amid all of the recent transfer speculation, Mirror Football have assessed Haaland’s FIFA 21 rating in more detail, to see what EA SPORTS make of the talented striker.

Erling Haaland’s FIFA 21 rating assessed

Overall Rating: 85/100

Potential Rating: 92/100

Age: 20

Best Attributes: Shot power (93), spring speed (91), strength (91), finishing (89), positioning (87), reactions (84), composure (83), volleys (83), aggression (83) and long shots (83).

Weak Foot: Three-Star

Skill Moves: Three-Star

Haaland’s current FIFA 21 rating of 85 out of 100 puts him on the same level as players like Dries Mertens, Georginio Wijnaldum, Romelu Lukaku, Mauro Icardi, Hakim Ziyech and Leroy Sane, with the 20-year-old having superb technical, mental and physical attributes on the game.

However, Haaland’s incredible potential rating of 92 out of 100 means that the forward can become as good as Cristiano Ronaldo and better than Robert Lewandowski (91), Kylian Mbappe (90), Mohamed Salah (90) and Sadio Mane (90), with only Lionel Messi (93) rated more highly on FIFA 21.

Chelsea are reportedly willing to break their club record to try and sign Erling Haaland this summer

The forward’s best attribute on FIFA 21 is his shot power (93), with his high sprint speed (91) and finishing (89) attributes making him a very dangerous player on the virtual pitch.

Haaland’s FIFA 21 profile suggests that the striker is already one of the best in the world, but his incredible potential means he could become one of the very best in the world over the next few seasons.

*FIFA 21 is out now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, with the next generation version of the game set to be released on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PlayStation 5 on December 4, 2020.

FIFA 21 TOTW 17 predictions featuring Harry Kane, John Stones and Thomas Muller

The FUT 21 TOTW 17 lineup could be full of Premier League stars this week, with Harry Kane and John Stones likely to be included.

Kane scored and earned a Man of the Match award in Spurs’ 3-1 win against Sheffield United, whilst defender Stones scored twice and kept a clean sheet in Manchester City’s 4-0 win against Crystal Palace on Sunday, which should be enough to see them feature in the FIFA 21 TOTW 17.

Liverpool duo Alisson and Thiago, Leicester City midfielders James Maddison and Youri Tielemans, and Manchester United defender Luke Shaw are also in with a chance of being included in the FUT 21 Team of the Week 17 lineup, following some excellent performances this weekend.

Also note that players included in either of the last two TOTW lineups are ineligible, as are players who have featured in a recent FUT 21 promo.

John Stones could be included in the FUT 21 TOTW 17 lineup.

This is just a FUT 21 TOTW 17 prediction, so there is no guarantee that any players mentioned below will be included.

GK:Alisson (Liverpool)

LB: Luke Shaw (Manchester United)

Liverpool and Man Utd combined FIFA 21 XI ahead of Premier League clash

The Premier League’s first place and second place team face off this weekend, with champions Liverpool hosting top of the table Manchester United at Anfield.

United’s 1-0 win over Burnley saw them go three points clear of Liverpool at the top of the table, with Jurgen Klopp’s side opening the door for United having failed to win any other their last three league matches, including a 0-1 defeat against Southampton on January 4.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have been excellent away from home in the Premier League this season, having won 11 of their last 12 matches away from home, but with Liverpool having not lost at home since April 2017, a run of 46 matches, United’s title credentials will face their sternest test yet this weekend.

Ahead of this huge game between these historic rivals, there’s little doubt that publications up and down the country will be formulating the best combined Liverpool and Man United XI ahead of the game, based on opinion and/or stats.

But, what would a Liverpool and Man United combined XI look like based purely off FIFA 21 player ratings? Scroll down to find out.

Liverpool and Man United combined FIFA 21 XI

First, some ground rules. Firstly, players who are likely to be unavailable for this weekend’s game haven’t been considered, which rules out Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and more.

Also, the below Liverpool and Man United combined FIFA 21 XI has been based purely off FIFA 21 Career Mode ratings, not FIFA 21 Ultimate Team ratings, as players are restricted to certain positions on that game mode.

These ratings on FIFA 21 are accurate as of the latest player database update, which was released on January 11 for Xbox, PlayStation and PC.

So, without further ado, here’s the Liverpool and Man United combined FIFA 21 XI.

Liverpool and Man United combined FIFA 21 XI

GK: Alisson (Liverpool) – 90

RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) – 87

CB: Fabinho ( Liverpool ) – 87

CB: Harry Maguire (Man United) – 81

LB: Andy Robertson (Liverpool) – 87

CDM: Jordan Henderson (Liverpool) – 86

CM: Bruno Fernandes (Man United) – 88

CM: Paul Pogba (Man United) – 86

RW: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – 90

CF: Roberto Firmino (Liverpool) – 86

LW: Sadio Mane (Liverpool) – 90

Without Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez or Joel Matip, Fabinho has to move into the centre of defence for this strongest combined XI, otherwise, Fabinho would have to go into midfield and one of Eric Bailly (79) or Victor Lindelof (79) would have to be included, making the overall team weaker.

The likes of David De Gea (86), Marcus Rashford (85), Georginio Wijnaldum (85), Thiago (85), Edinson Cavani (84), Alex Telles (84) and Anthony Martial (83) are some of the players who miss out.

Man Utd could face busy January window after summer loan failures

With Manchester United looking to end their eight-year Premier League title drought, fans are keen to see some new arrivals in the January window.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has guided his squad towards the top of the table and could usurp Liverpool if they win their games in hand.

United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has previously hinted that the club’s long term strategy will centre around the summer windows.

That means that despite the arrival of Amad Diallo, it could be a quiet month in terms of incomings at Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be set for a busy January

But Solskjaer could still be busy as he faces a number of key decisions on the players that have been loaned out.

Like many of the top clubs across the continent, the Red Devils opted to send a host of youngsters out on loan.

The benefit of such deals are clear to see, with Dean Henderson’s rapid development due to his game-time with Sheffield United.

Dean Henderson enjoyed a brilliant two-season spell with Sheffield United

However, it doesn’t always work out to plan and United could be forced into a number of U-turns in the coming weeks.

Firstly, Dylan Levitt has been recalled from his spell with League One outfit Charlton Atheltic, with suggestions from Addicks boss Lee Bowyer, that he didn’t have the physicality required.

He said: “He is very good on the ball, a very good passer. Was it a little too early for him? I’d probably say it’s the league that was the problem – not him as a player.

‘It was just the physicality of the league. Other leagues aren’t like that – the Premier League and international football.”

Dylan Levitt has been recalled from his spell with Charlton

Levitt made just five appearances for Charlton, as all three parties failed to feel the benefit of such an arrangement.

Joel Pereira is facing a similar conundrum in the Championship with Huddersfield Town. The 24-year-old is destined to leave United at the end of the season, but is doing little to further his career, playing just once this season for the Terriers.

While Pereira’s United future is bleak, Tahith Chong is a player Solskjaer will be keeping a very close eye on.

The United boss managed to persuade the 21-year-old to sign a new deal with the club, before sending him to the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen.

Reports in Germany claim Chong could be brought back to Old Trafford

But according to reports in Germany, United could terminate the agreement, with the deal falling ‘short of their expectations’.

Chong has played just 320 minutes in the Bundesliga, starting on only three occasions.

That isn’t likely to cut it for United, who are keen to see the winger develop in his time away from the club.

Andreas Pereira is another man that is failing to reap the rewards of a successful loan deal.

The Brazilian is rarely included in Lazio’s starting XI and has just one goal in his limited minutes for the Italians.

Can Man Utd win the Premier League this season? Have your say here.

Andreas Pereira is another who has found regular football hard to come by

Similarly to Chong, there have been suggestions that his loan move could be terminated, although this particular U-turn would be driven by the player.

Pereira has been deemed surplus to requirements by Solskjaer, but him being sat on the bench is doing little for a potential monetary sale in the summer.

There are success stories however – James Garner at Watford and Diogo Dalot with Roma are both progressing nicely and could be options within Solskjaer’s squad next term.

But for the vast majority away from Carrington, their moves have only served to stall their development.

It could be a pivotal month for them, and for Solskjaer’s squad in the future.

FA Cup forced to evolve once again but remains a touch of reassuring normality

The annals of FA Cup history will not carry an asterisk next to the name of the 2020/21 winners.

There will be no official nod to the health crisis playing havoc with football and one of its most iconic competitions.

What if the worst came to the worst and ties in rounds leading up to the final had to be forfeited?

The name on the trophy would still be engraved as deeply as any other.

Chelsea won the FA Cup in 2000 and that triumph is no different from any of their seven other successes.

Despite the furore at the time, few remember that holders Manchester United did not take part in that season’s competition.

So no-one is going to dwell on the fact some teams had to play the kids in some games in the 2020/21 edition.

Who will win this year’s FA Cup?

After all, since when, scandalously, have the majority of Premier League and Championship sides gone full-strength in the early stages of their cup campaigns?

Covid means Derby County have to send a young second string to Chorley on Saturday but Wayne Rooney was probably never going to field a bona fide first choice eleven anyhow.

Things are not ideal, to state the blindingly obvious.

No Rooney on the touchline, no senior players at all for Derby on Saturday

Drawing the fixtures for the fourth round and the fifth round at the same time is hardly in keeping with FA Cup tradition.

But FA Cup tradition has been an evolving quality for a long time now. We’ve had draws made when ties have yet it be played for a while.

As the grim Covid statistics roll in day after day, there is no telling how this football season will pan out.

It goes without saying public health relegates a sport to an incidental.

But the Premier League is ploughing on as it falls into the category of an elite competition.

Well, there is no more elite competition than the grand, old FA Cup.

In these dark times, we cling to small symbols of reassuring normality.

And there is nothing more thrillingly normal than a mighty, rich club such as Spurs scrapping with part-timers on a brute of a pitch on a filthy January day.

Nothing more thrillingly normal than the FA Cup being raised towards a Wembley sky in May.

That is why, in whatever form, the show is going on.

Should the FA Cup have been scrapped this season? Have your say in the comments.

Van de Beek ‘upset’ at Man Utd and ‘doesn’t want to give interviews’ anymore

Donny van de Beek is reportedly disappointed and upset at Manchester United, and doesn’t want to give interviews anymore.

The Red Devils midfielder has struggled for game time at Old Trafford since his £35million transfer from Ajax in the summer window.

Van de Beek had to wait until late November to make his first Premier League start under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and was given no minutes over the Christmas and New Year’s period.

Dutch press advised Van de Beek to ‘pack his bags straightaway’ if he was left out of Man United’s Carabao Cup semi-final defeat by Man City.

But the midfielder was given just two minutes at the end of the clash.

According to Dutch publication Soccer News, Van de Beek, who has kept his cards close to his chest in recent weeks, is said to be upset and disappointed.

The report adds that the Holland international doesn’t want to give interviews as a result.

Van de Beek has received much advice in recent months as his lack of game time has been a huge talking point in his native Holland.

Ronald de Boer recently instructed the midfielder to talk to the United board to clarify his position at the club.

De Boer told AD: “Euro 2020 is coming, he will undoubtedly want to be there. Maybe it would be good for him to discuss with the club exactly what they want with him.

“If the view on playing time does not improve, he may have to declare that he should be loaned or even sold.

“You have to be lucky every now and then. Of course it doesn’t look great now, but with a great performance it can suddenly change completely.

“We also don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. Perhaps they have made certain agreements with his transfer, they will get him ready for next year this season.

“That always remains a bit of a guess.”

Amad Diallo will wear the number 19 shirt at Manchester United, the club have confirmed.

The winger has finally arrived at Old Trafford after signing for United from Atalanta in the summer window, and has put pen to paper on a four-year deal.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said of Diallo: “As a club, we have followed Amad for a number of years and having watched him myself, I believe he is one of the most exciting young prospects in the game.

“Manchester United has such a proud history of developing young players and everything is in place to enable Amad to reach his potential here.

Facundo Pellistri denied Man Utd debut after testing positive for COVID-19

Facundo Pellestri has been denied the chance to make his Manchester United debut after testing positive for coronavirus.

The Uruguayan was signed on deadline day in the last transfer window after a £8m fee was agreed with Penarol.

At the age of 18, the now-19-year-old has been touted as one for the future.

The teenager has been playing for United’s Under-23s this campaign, making six appearances, scoring twice and setting up one.

But he was in line to make his first-team debut on Saturday night when the Red Devils take on Watford in the FA Cup.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on rotating his squad, with the likes of Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes and Aaron Wan-Bissaka all utilised heavily in recent weeks.

United star Facundo Pellestri has tested positive for COVID

Pellestri was one of those who would have been likely to gain minutes but instead will now self-isolate for 10 days after testing positive for coronavirus.

He is not showing symptoms, though, but will remain at home for the next duration of time.

The youngster had been training with the first-team this week with Solskjaer looking to give him his debut.

Pellestri was signed with the future in mind, along with fellow winger Amad Diallo – who officially joined this month.

The 18-year-old was signed from Atalanta in the last transfer window but could only sign this January.

The Serie A outfit wanted to keep the Ivorian until the end of the season but Solskjaer was desperate to get him at Old Trafford as soon as possible.

Amad Diallo has finally signed for United

Meanwhile, Pellestri has talked up the blossoming relationship he is building with his compatriot Edinson Cavani, who signed for United on the same day.

He told MUTV: “It’s been amazing to train with guys like Rashford, Pogba, Mata and Edi [Cavani], who is very close friends with me. It’s amazing for me because I watched them on TV and now I am practising with them.

“The intensity, the high quality they have, it’s great for me to play with them and I improve a lot.

“All the time, I speak with Edi and he is a very nice person. He is always trying to be around me, giving me advice and everything that I need.

“He is there to help me and that is very important for me. I am very happy with that.

“I know he is one of the best players in the world, and one of the all-time best players from Uruguay, but he is also a very nice person.”
