Ferguson recommendation edges closer to Man Utd transfer after Mourinho decision

[ad_1]

Sir Alex Ferguson has kept a close eye on Manchester United since his departure – and there was one player he wanted them to sign.

Jose Mourinho recently revealed on Tottenham’s All or Nothing Amazon documentary that the legendary former manager advised him to move for Dele Alli when he was in charge at Old Trafford.

When Mourinho returned to management with Spurs, he was expected to build his team around the man Ferguson labelled the “best young midfielder” since Paul Gascoigne just a few years ago.

Instead, things have gone sour for Alli and Mourinho.

The playmaker was hauled off at half-time of Tottenham’s defeat to Everton on the opening day of the Premier League season.

He will now be left out of Mourinho’s squad to head to Bulgaria in the Europa League, according to The Telegraph.

Alli’s future in north London is looking increasingly uncertain – and he could be edging closer to coming onto the market as a result of Mourinho’s recent decisions.

If Mourinho continues to move away from Alli, then the club could decide to cash-in on a player who still holds plenty of market value.

It has been suggested they are already contemplating doing just that with claims his name was brought up in talks with Real Madrid over Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon.

Manchester United are looking to plot their path back to the top. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already brought in Donny van de Beek but Jadon Sancho remains Manchester United’s number one target.

If that is the case, then United could be presented with the chance to give Ferguson the player he has longed to see at Old Trafford since his departure.

Speaking to Daniel Levy when he took the Tottenham job in footage shown on All or Nothing, Mourinho said: “I told already Dele very directly that he doesn’t train well, he is not a good trainer.

“I am not saying a disaster but I am not saying Harry Kane, Harry Kane is a very good trainer.

“Sir Alex Ferguson gave me only one bit of advice in two and a half years: Buy Dele Alli. ‘That guy, with that mentality, the way he plays, the aggression he has in mind. This guy is the Manchester United player. Buy Dele Alli’.

“And he [Ferguson] has an eye for a player. But he [Alli] is not a good trainer, we need to find motivation for the guy.”

Ferguson told Sky Sports back in 2016: “He is probably the best young midfielder I have seen in many years

“Probably going back as far as Gascoigne.”

Now, United could get their chance to land that talent with Alli edging closer to an exit.
