Liverpool face Rhian Brewster dilemma amid Sheffield United interest

[ad_1]

The future of Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster is expected to be decided in the coming days amid reports linking him with a move to either Sheffield United or Crystal Palace.

The 20-year-old has long been touted as one of the most talented young prospects at Anfield, but as yet he has failed to break into the first-team and have an extended run in Jurgen Klopp’s side.

He spent the 2019-20 campaign at Swansea, scoring ten goals in 20 Championship appearances, and after returning to Liverpool this summer he impressed in pre-season, finding the net three times in two friendlies against Stuttgart and Red Bull Salzburg.

He missed a penalty to cost the Reds in the Community Shield shootout loss to Arsenal, however, and was not involved in the squad for the 4-3 win against Leeds in the Premier League on Saturday.

According to Sky Sports Sheffield United and Palace have held talks with Liverpool over a potential permanent transfer, but there seems some reluctance from Liverpool’s side to let him leave.

On the one hand, with the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi already at the club his game-time looks set to be limited again this season, which would come as a big frustration for Brewster.

But on the other hand, there is a risk that if Liverpool let him go they will live to regret it if he goes on to fulfill his undoubted potential and become an accomplished Premier League striker for another club.

One potential option is for Liverpool to insist on a buy-back clause for the player, but it remains to be seen if any of Brewster’s prospective teams would be willing to do so.

Whatever happens, it appears it is crunch time for Liverpool and Brewster, and it will be intriguing to see what happens in the near future as his future is decided.
