Thiago set for dream shirt number at Liverpool as transfer falls into place

Thiago Alcantara will be handed his favoured No.6 shirt if, as expected, he completes a move to Liverpool from Bayern Munich in the coming days.

The Reds have been chasing the 29-year-old for the last few months, but had until now been unable to reach an agreement with the Bundesliga and Champions League winners for his signature.

A £27million bid from Liverpool has been accepted by Bayern for the Spanish midfielder, and his move to Anfield could be confirmed by the end of the week.

He would become Liverpool’s second signing of the summer, along with left-back Kostas Tsimikas, and would certainly add strength in depth and valuable winning experience to the midfield.

Thiago wears No.6 for Bayern Munich

Thiago currently wears the number six shirt for Bayern – a number which was previously held by defender Dejan Lovren at Liverpool.

But the Croatian centre-back completed a move to Zenit Saint Petersburg earlier this summer, meaning the number is now vacant.

And Thiago would no doubt relish the chance to pull on the No.6 shirt for Liverpool, which has also been worn by the likes of John Arne Riise and Fabio Aurelio in the past.

Would Thiago be a good signing for Liverpool? Have your say below.

Liverpool will no doubt be delighted if they do finally manage to sign Thiago

It remains to be seen if Thiago joins in time for the Reds’ crucial Premier League game against Chelsea on Sunday, but his arrival will no doubt please manager Jurgen Klopp, who is known to be a huge fan of the player.

Thiago started his career at Barcelona, making 101 appearances for the Catalan giants before making the move to Munich in 2013.

He has been an important part of that side ever since, helping them win a staggering seven Bundesliga titles as well as four German Cups, a Club World Cup and, of course, last season’s Champions League.
