Man Utd transfer round-up: Fred linked with exit, Sandro race and keeper departs

[ad_1]

Manchester United have endured a frustrating transfer window so far this summer.

The Red Devils’ long pursuit of Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho has so far come to nothing, and there have been no other new signings for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish is still on the club’s radar, while Solskjaer is also believed to be on the lookout for a centre-half as he seeks to bridge the gap to fierce rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.

Here are the latest United transfer rumours – including the club joining the race for one of Serie A’s brightest talents.

United in contact over Italian wonderkid Tonali

United face competition to sign Sandro Tonali

Sandro Tonali has made quite the impact at Brescia, having played more than 80 games for the Italian club and made his international debut as a teenager.

The midfielder has attracted plenty of interest following the Biancazzurri’s relegation to Serie B, with Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) reporting that there has been “a phone call” from United over a potential deal.

However, the English side are expected to face an uphill battle to sign the 20-year-old, with Brescia owner Massimo Cellino reportedly pushing to complete a move which would see the player join Inter Milan.

The deal would see Tonali join Inter on loan for the 2020/21 season, with an obligation to buy for an initial €35million (£31m) at the end of the campaign.

Tonali played 35 games in Serie A last season, scoring once, and had also attracted the interest of AC Milan before the Rossoneri turned their attention elsewhere.

Inter have already made one midfield signing this summer, snapping up Nicolo Barella on a permanent basis after his loan move from Cagliari, while former Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez has also joined the club on a permanent deal.

Back-up keeper agrees one-year loan switch

Joel Castro Pereira has dropped down the pecking order following the return of Dean Henderson

Manchester United back-up goalkeeper Joel Castro Pereira is on the move again, with the Manchester Evening News reporting he has agreed a one-year loan deal with Huddersfield Town.

The Portuguese under-21 international will compete with Ben Hamer for a starting spot at the Championship side, who took Liverpool’s Kamil Grabara and Everton stopper Jonas Lossl on loan last season.

He is expected to become new Terriers boss Carlos Corberan’s second summer signing, after forward Danny Ward joined from Cardiff City, but the MEN reports there is no immediate option for a permanent move.

Pereira hasn’t played for United’s first team since 2017, and his contract at Old Trafford expires in 2021.

He spent last season on loan at Hearts, playing 20 times in the Scottish Premiership, but the return from loan of Dean Henderson has pushed him further down the pecking order.

Fellow goalkeeper Matej Kovar has also left United on loan, joining Swindon Town for the 2020/21 season.

Galatasaray are on the lookout for a new midfielder, after loanee Jean-Michael Seri returned to parent club Fulham.

Their search has seen the Turkish club look towards the Premier League again, with Manchester United’s Fred the latest to be linked with a move.

According to Fotomac, via the Manchester Evening News, Gala see the Brazilian as the ideal addition to their squad as they prepare to embark on a Europa League campaign.

They have already made a number of signings, including a move for Arda Turan from Barcelona, and reports in Turkey claim the 22-time domestic champions would prefer a permanent move but are not ruling out a loan.

Fred cost United more than £50m from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018, and is under contract at Old Trafford until 2023.

He played 48 times in all competitions last season, but started none of United’s last eight Premier League games.
