Jack Wilshere’s talks on future as West Ham bid to terminate his contract

Jack Wilshere will not be forced out of West Ham with the club trying to negotiate a termination of his £100,000-a-week contract.

The Hammers are trying to raise cash to revamp their squad. Wilshere has made just 18 appearances and scored one goal since joining the club in 2018 as a free agent.

West Ham’s talks come a week after Wilshere criticised his own club for selling teenager Grady Diangana to West Brom.

Wilshere said on social media: “Go and do your thing in a club that respects you big player with a big future.”

The former Arsenal playmaker has 10 months left to run on his contract and an unhappy, injury-ravaged couple of seasons in east London.

West Ham have made strengthening their defence a priority but saw a restructured offer of up to £28million from Burnley’s James Tarkowski rejected on Thursday.

It means the Hammers could also cash in on interest in winger Andriy Yarmalenko from Chinese club Shandong Luneng.

The Ukraine international joined West Ham in a £17.5million deal from Borussia Dortmund in July 2018 and has made 33 appearances, scoring seven goals.

Should Yarmolenko switch to Shandong he will link up with former Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini, who joined the club in January 2019.

Meanwhile, West Ham are set to become the first club to trial an innovative new initiative that could speed up fans’ return to stadiums.

The club is working on a Covid-19 protection sanitiser tunnel, designed to provide an added layer of security for supporters concerned about the coronavirus risk.

The innovation is understood to consist of three sets of tunnels which provide facial recognition and takes the temperature of fans.
