The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) coalition government in Manipur has come under threat. Three BJP MLAs have resigned and joined the Congress. Apart from this, four MLAs of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) have left the cabinet. Also, a TMC MLA and an Independent MLA have withdrawn their support from the government.

It is being told that S.K. Subhash Chandra Singh, T.T. Haokip and Samuel Jendai joined the Congress. At the same time, Deputy CM Y Jayakumar Singh, Minister N Kayisi, Minister L Jayant Kumar Singh and Letpao Haokip have resigned from the post of NPP. Trinamool Congress’s T Robindro Singh and Independent MLA Shahabuddin have also withdrawn support from the BJP.

Amidst this political crisis, the chair of CM Biren Singh is under threat. There can also be a decision to impose President’s rule in the state. At the same time, the Congress can claim to form the government.

What is the political equation now

Now NPP (4) TMC (1) and IND (1) have withdrawn support from BJP’s coalition government. After the resignation of 3 BJP MLAs, the party has 18 members of its own. In such a situation, now the BJP can claim the support of 23 MLAs by joining NPF (4) and LJP (1). At the same time, the Congress can stake claim to form the government with the support of 33 MLAs.
