US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka, son-in-law Jerad Kushner to accompany him on his India tour

New Delhi: US President Donald Trump will be accompanied by a high-level delegation consisting, most significantly, of his daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jerad Kushner. First lady Melania Trump will also be visiting India along with the US President. Melania Trump is slated to visit a government school during the duo’s maiden visit to India.

“President Donald Trump will be accompanied by the high-level delegation on India visit,” Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said earlier today.

The 12-member delegation will consist of Kushner, US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, NSA Robert O’Brien, Secretary of Treasury Steve Mnuchin, Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross and Director, Office of Management and Budget, Mick Mulvaney among others. The team is slated to land in Ahmedabad by noon on February 24. Trump claimed that he was hoping to see a mammoth crowd of 1 crore people at the Motera stadium in Ahmedabad.

Later in the day, the delegation will reach New Delhi where Trump will receive a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhawan as per protocol. He will hold talks with PM Modi and is also slated to attend a meeting with executives of Indian companies at an event organised by the US embassy in New Delhi. He is also scheduled to visit the Taj Mahal on day two of his visit.

Besides economic ties and defence deals which are likely to be signed between New Delhi and Washington, the two leaders will also focus on boosting counter-terror cooperation, deepening engagement in the Indo-Pacific region, augmenting defence and trade ties and India’s concerns over H1B visas.

Earlier today, addressing a rally in Colorado, Trump said “Great new trade deals will likely be done. I am going to India next week. They have been hitting us hard for many many years but I really like Prime Minister Modi. We’ll talk a little business. They give us tariffs one of the highest in the world. But I hear they gonna have 10 million people showing up along one of the largest stadiums in the world.”
