Nelly Teases Several Upcoming Country Music Collaborations On His EP ‘Heartland’: ‘It’s A Dope Vibe’

Nelly spoke to HL about his forthcoming EP that’s ‘country-influenced’ & features many cross-genre collabs!

Nelly is no stranger to the world of country music, collaborating with Tim McGraw on “Over and Over” in 2004, before most artists were doing this kind of cross-genre work. He then brought his talents to Florida Georgia Line for a remix of “Cruise” in 2012, and now, the rapper is back to working with modern country artists on his forthcoming album Heartland. “I don’t call it a country album. I call it country-influenced, because it’s still a Nelly album but it’s a Nelly album with Nelly showing his appreciation and the influence that country music plays on him,” the DWTS alum told HollywoodLife.com in an EXCLUSIVE interview. “It definitely has a vibe that a lot of people will consider that a lot of people will consider country. A lot of the country artists who I appreciate and who I’m cool with will be featured on there as well. It’s a dope vibe.”

(Courtesy of Frito-Lay)

Nelly continued, “It’s something that is a little bit different. Obviously, I’m from the ‘Show Me’ state, so you know, we want to represent at all costs and it’s dope. I’m hoping that it can definitely transcend.” It’s been nearly twenty years since Nelly’s breakout album, Country Grammar, which was Grammy nominated and referred to as one of the best rap albums of all time. Ahead of release of Heartland, Nelly has teased fans with a single from the EP with Florida Georgia Line, titled “Lil Bit” back in October.

“They’re like family to me. We’ve been really fortunate enough to do other things with each other such as tours — we’ve been on two tours together that were huge and we’re actually talking again, so we can tour again whenever we get out of all this,” the “Hot In Here” rapper said of FGL. “We were able to get in the studio and come up with something that we thought would capture the imagination of the energy that we’d like to project in a future tour.”

Nelly spoke to HL in collaboration with Frito-Lay, as part of their new campaign for Flamin’ Hot Lays. “Nelly is getting a chance to resurgence, so to speak… as an artist, you don’t ever feel like you’re actually gone anywhere, but I guess you feel it in a sense of how time moves,” he said. “It’s something that I think, caught the attention of what Frito-Lays was trying to do with their resurgence of Flamin’ Hots, and making it even hotter!”

Maren Morris Shades Country Music Wives For Supporting Trump After Capitol Riots: It’s ‘Hard To Shake’

Maren Morris called out the wives of some country singers for ‘not knowing the difference between racial injustice and Nazis breaching our Capitol’ after the riots last week.

Maren Morris, 30, is speaking out about the tragic riots at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 6 and clapping back at wives of country singers who are still being vocal about their support for President Donald Trump, 74. The singer took to Twitter to both address the wives and express her overall devastation  about the pro-Trump supporters who stormed into the Capitol in an attempt to overturn his defeat in the 2020 presidential election.

“Today is gonna be hard to shake. Something my WW2 fighting Paw-Paw never told me about, something my parents never had to go through… thinking about how I will tell my son about this one day,” Maren, who is the mother of nine-month-old Hayes Andrew Hurd, wrote in her first tweet about the news on Jan. 7.

She followed it up with her tweet about the country wives, which was in direct response to a tweet from fellow country singer, Mickey Guyton. “I am completely disgusted. Are these boys still backing the blue? Asking for a friend,” Mickey’s tweet read.

“And how do some singer’s wives conveniently not know the difference between marching for racial injustice and Nazis breaching our Capitol because their guy didn’t win?” Maren responded.

Their exchange continued when Mickey replied with, “I know exactly who you’re talking about.”

Although Maren didn’t reveal which wives she was referring to in her tweet, PEOPLE reported she appeared to be talking about Jason Aldean‘s wife Brittany and Florida Georgia Line star Brian Kelley‘s wife Brittney. The “My Church” crooner posted an additional tweet that contained screenshots with conspiracy theories about the riot, which seemed to come from Brittany’s now deleted Instagram Stories, and admitted her “friend” posted it. “My friend posted this today. Maybe she should do better research before spewing dangerous conspiracies,” she wrote in the tweet.

This isn’t the first time Maren has made headlines for publicly taking a stance against Trump and his supporters. On Dec. 10, she directly responded to one of Trump’s tweets that included a rant about supposed voter fraud and how he feels the presidential election was “illegally” stolen from him.

“How can you give an election to someone who lost the election by hundreds of thousands of legal votes in each of the swing states,” Trump’s tweet read. “How can a country be run by an illegitimate president?”

“You lost the popular vote twice, sooooooo,” Maren responded. Trump was permanently banned from Twitter on Jan. 8, two days after the U.S. Capitol riots.

Danny Dyer sparks fresh feud with Olly Murs as he dubs his music ‘really s***’

Danny Dyer first took a pop at singer Olly Murs’ talents six years ago – and he’s at it again.

The EastEnders star, 43, took a swipe at the 36-year-old Troublemaker hitmaker on his and daughter Dani Dyer’s recent episode of Sorted With The Dyers podcast.

Actor Danny appeared to reignite his feud with Essex boy Olly when he quizzed his pregnant daughter on her birthing plans and asked if she’d a compiled music playlist.

Danny then went on to dub Olly’s music as “really s**t”.

He asked her: “Have you got a playlist? How about if you listened to some really s**t music and then that might help?

Danny Dyer has labelled Olly Murs’ music as ‘really s***’

“Say you kick off with Olly Murs?”

Former Love Island personality Dani, who is soon due to welcome her first baby with boyfriend Sammy Kimmence, responded: “Oh no, I don’t want anything like that.”

In March 2015, Danny made it clear that he was not a fan of X Factor star Olly when he stopped host Greg James from playing one of his tracks during an interview.

He exclaimed: “Do you have to play Olly Murs? Can you not play something else? Just pull a tune out?”

Back in 2015, Danny slammed Olly’s music

It comes after first-time mum-to-be Dani admitted that she’s feeling scared when thinking of giving birth.

Taking to her Instagram Story, Dani got candid with her followers ahead of her due date.

“Honestly, I’m so scared now to give birth,” she said.

“Knowing that in a month’s time there’s going to be a baby here, hopefully, if I’m not overdue and stuff, I’m just really scared and want tips now.”

Dani admitted she was laid back when it came to thinking of giving birth, but as the big day gets nearer and nearer, she’s having a harder time being as relaxed.

“I’ve been that person that was like, ‘Yeah I’m fine and whatever…giving birth is easy!’ and now I’m sitting here like oh my God,” she said.

“Any tips would be great!”

Dani stunned fans with her pregnancy announcement back in July when she took to Instagram to reveal that she and Sammy would welcome their first child in January 2021.

‘The pandemic, the Black Lives Matter movement and the tensions of the election have mostly created a sense of gratitude for what I have and closeness with the people near me.’

Speaking about his unmistakable vocal abilities he said he was inspired by Ethiopian music growing up, before shifting with his albums to portray different sides to himself.

‘The older I got, I was exposed to more music, and my voice became a chameleon going into different characters with each album. By following my own path and breaking industry norms, it seems to be influencing others,’ he said.

Talking about his career the Starboy singer said, ‘I was laser focused back then and I’m laser focused right now,’ as he called it ‘the story’ of his twenties.

‘I feel like I spent the last 10 years creating a sound and most of my career I’ve either been running away from it or duplicating it,’ he shared.

It has been an interesting few weeks for the star as last month the Toronto-based star called the Grammys ‘corrupt’ after he was snubbed in the nominations.

Taking to social media, he wrote to organizers: ‘You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency…’

Insiders said that the Can’t Feel My Face artist’s camp suspected the lack of nominations were in response to the unpleasant back and forth over whether he would perform in the Super Bowl.

The artist, whose full name is Abel Tesfaye, released the record After Hours in March to strong sales and reviews, and it won Favorite Album – Soul/R&B honors at the American Music Awards this past Sunday.

Recording Academy interim chief Harvey Mason, jr. responded to the singer’s public complaints in a statement to Rolling Stone.

‘We understand that the Weeknd is disappointed at not being nominated,’ he said. ‘I was surprised and can empathize with what he’s feeling. His music this year was excellent, and his contributions to the music community and broader world are worthy of everyone’s admiration.’

Mason continued: ‘We would have loved to have him also perform on the Grammy stage the weekend before’ the Super Bowl.] Unfortunately, every year, there are fewer nominations than the number of deserving artists.’

‘To be clear, voting in all categories ended well before The Weeknd’s performance at the Super Bowl was announced, so in no way could it have affected the nomination process. All Grammy nominees are recognized by the voting body for their excellence, and we congratulate them all.’

Asked by Variety about The Weeknd getting shut out, Mason said at the time, ‘It really just comes down to the voting body that decides.

‘We have eight nomination slots to fill in [the Big Four categories: Best Album, Song, Record and New Artist], five in others, and the voters vote for their favorites. It’s really interesting, though.’

Mason opened up about the process Grammy officials take to suss out which performers are nominated, and in what categories.

‘We look at it every year and make tweaks and revisions to the process; we did it this year, last year, we’ll do it next year. And I don’t think this calls it into question, honestly,’ Mason said. ‘The process is there so we can continue to monitor excellence.’
