It’s Anne Hathaway‘s birthday! Today, November 12, the beloved actress turns 38 years old, and we cannot believe everything that Anne has accomplished over the course of her career. Anne has truly conquered nearly every facet of film. She can do comedy, drama, musicals, and has an Oscar to boot! To celebrate Anne’s birthday, we’re looking back on her marvelous career and everything she’s accomplished.

Longtime fans of Anne know her best as an early aughts Disney darling. In 2001, the actress got her big break as Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries. Anne starred opposite living legend Dame Julie Andrews — no pressure, right? — in the movie, and went on to reprise her role in the 2004 sequel. That same year, Anne stole audience’s hearts as Ella in Ella Enchanted. But a few short years later, Anne would shed her innocent Disney persona for far more mature roles.

She earned her very first Oscar nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for the independent feature Rachel Getting Married.

Anne followed up her Oscar-nominated work with romance films like One Day and Love & Other Drugs before taking on the coveted role of Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, in The Dark Knight Rises. That same year, Anne wowed audiences and critics alike with her vulnerable performance as Fantine in the movie musical Les Misérables. For her transcendent performance, Anne won the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role at the 2013 Academy Awards.

Anne Hathaway responds to criticism over The Witches disability controversy

Anne Hathaway has issued an apology after criticism about the depiction of her character’s hands in The Witches film.

There has been a huge backlash towards the latest adaptation of Roald Dahl’s 1983 book which stars Hathaway as the Grand High Witch, who has three elongated fingers on each hand.

Both the novel and the 1990 film starring Anjelica Huston portrayed the witches as having five fingers and the new film’s producers have been accused of being insensitive towards disabled people.

British Para swimmer Amy Marren was among those criticising director Robert Zemeckis’ version, saying its depiction of the witches’ hands could be harmful to people – especially children – with limb impairments.

Academy Award-winner Hathaway has now joined studio Warner Bros in issuing an apology and said “now that I know better I promise I’ll do better”.

Anne Hathaway has apologised for her insensitive appearance in The Witches

She wrote on Instagram : “Let me begin by saying I do my best to be sensitive to the feelings and experiences of others not out of some scrambling PC fear, but because not hurting others seems like a basic level of decency we should all be striving for.

“As someone who really believes in inclusivity and really, really detests cruelty, I owe you all an apology for the pain caused. I am sorry.

“I did not connect limb difference with the GHW when the look of the character was brought to me; if I had, I assure you this never would have happened.”

Anne Hathaway in The Witches

She added: “I particularly want to say I’m sorry to kids with limb differences: now that I know better I promise I’ll do better.

“And I owe a special apology to everyone who loves you as fiercely as I love my own kids: I’m sorry I let your family down.”

Hathaway also shared a video from the Lucky Fin Project, an organisation supporting those with limb differences.

A Warner Bros representative said filmmakers were “deeply saddened” at causing upset.

The Witches also stars Octavia Spencer and Stanley Tucci.

‘Now I have a beautiful almost-11-month-old boy, but I was pregnant when I made The Witches, so technically he’s all over that performance,’ she said.

Anne joked with Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest that costume designer Joanna Johnston had to be crafty as she maneuvered her character’s clothing.

‘She goes, “I really want you to have a really tight waist.” And I had just found out I was pregnant and I was like, “Mmm, no. No, I don’t think so. No,”‘ she said. ‘And she was like, “Well, why?” And I was like, “Eh, you know, I just know myself.” I’m scrambling for a reason.’

‘The Witches’: See Anne Hathaway’s Scary Transformation Vs. Anjelica Huston’s In OG Film

Anne Hathaway takes on the terrifying role of the Grand High Witch from Anjelica Huston in ‘The Witches’ remake. Her transformation is downright shocking just like Anjelica’s was way back in 1990.

The remake of Roald Dahl’s The Witches is now available on HBO Max just in time for Halloween. There are a few changes in the 2020 version of The Witches, based on Roald Dahl’s book of the same name, but one core thing remains the same: the Grand High Witch’s transformation is absolutely terrifying. Anjelica Huston, 69, slayed the role in the 1990 original movie, and now Anne Hathaway, 37, is stepping into the wicked role.

Anjelica Huston’s version of the Grand High Witch vs. Anne Hathaway’s version. (Warner Bros / The Everett Collection)

Anne’s version of the Grand High Witch is very different from Anjelica’s version. When Anne’s Grand High Witch takes off her wig, she’s completely bald and her head is full of sores. The actress also removes the Grand High Witch’s gloves to reveal her 3-fingered hands that look like talons. Her feet just have one long toe each. Ew.

The scariest part of Anne’s transformation is the Grand High Witch’s mouth. Anne’s character has scars on both sides of her lips. When she screams or smiles, her mouth opens enormously wide to reveal a set of sharp teeth. It’s reminiscent of the Marvel Comics character Venom.

Anjelica’s Grand High Witch went for a different look. When Anjelica’s character removes her disguise, the Grand High Witch reveals that she’s actually hideous underneath. She’s completely grotesque, with a long, pointy nose, warts, hair sprouting everywhere, and a humpback. Honestly, is there anyone who didn’t have nightmares when they first saw this transformation?

The 2020 remake made a good decision in going for a totally different look regarding the horrifying Grand High Witch. An exact replica of Anjelica’s version would have been no fun! Both are very scary in their own right. At the end of the day, the Grand High Witch eventually gets a heavy dose of karma after wreaking havoc in kids’ lives, and that’s all that matters. Roald Dahl’s The Witches is now streaming on HBO Max.

Anne Hathaway Goes Bald As She Terrorizes Kids In First Trailer For ‘The Witches’

Children, watch out! Anne Hathaway is stepping into the heels — and the wig — of the Grand High Witch for the highly-anticipated remake of ‘The Witches’. The first trailer is here!

Who’s ready for a little black magic? Roald Dahl‘s beloved 1983 children’s novel The Witches has been reimagined for a new generation in a movie for HBO Max. The spooky film stars Anne Hathaway as the HWIC — that’s head witch in charge, of course — and she’s delightfully sinister in the first trailer for the flick. The spot, which you can watch above, even features Anne ditching her glamorous facade to morph into a bald, scaly enchantress.

For the unversed who weren’t traumatized as kids by the original movie in the early 90s, The Witches follows a young boy (Jahzir Bruno) who has an unfortunate run-in with a convention of witches at a hotel. The Grand High Witch (Anne) reveals a plan to turn all children into mice, so that they’ll be exterminated. The witches find him spying on them, and make him their tester for the sinister magic formula.

The Witches, directed by Robert Zemeckis, sets up a Devil Wears Prada reunion between Anne and Stanley Tucci. Stanley plays the owner of the hotel who has an intense run-in with Anne and her witches in the trailer as they check into their convention. The star-studded cast also features Octavia Spencer (who’s done some horror of her own with Ma) as the boy’s grandmother, and Chris Rock as the narrator of the devious story.

The Witches was supposed to hit theaters on Halloween, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, has been moved to HBO Max. It will now hit the streaming platform on Tuesday, October 22. Grab your popcorn!

Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor have been seen shooting some of the first scenes for new pandemic-themed film, Lockdown, earlier this week.

Hathaway, who will play lead character Linda, could be seen looking weary while standing at an open window as she puffed on a cigarette in shots from filming.

The Oscar-winning actress, 37, was seen without make-up and her hair drawn back into a ponytail, as she cut a strained figure while gazing out onto the street.

Meanwhile, Ejiofor, 43, who was first linked to the film earlier this week and will star as Paxton, was spotted filming out on the street as he appeared to recite poetry.

The actor was dressed in a red floral print shirt and grey trousers, while Hathaway was wore a white T-shirt underneath a cream cardigan.

As the scene progressed, the star was seen flicking ash from her cigarette down onto the street below.

The location for the film appeared to be an affluent street in London, judging by the well-presented terraced houses which were being used for filming.
