Liverpool and Man Utd combined FIFA 21 XI ahead of Premier League clash

The Premier League’s first place and second place team face off this weekend, with champions Liverpool hosting top of the table Manchester United at Anfield.

United’s 1-0 win over Burnley saw them go three points clear of Liverpool at the top of the table, with Jurgen Klopp’s side opening the door for United having failed to win any other their last three league matches, including a 0-1 defeat against Southampton on January 4.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have been excellent away from home in the Premier League this season, having won 11 of their last 12 matches away from home, but with Liverpool having not lost at home since April 2017, a run of 46 matches, United’s title credentials will face their sternest test yet this weekend.

Ahead of this huge game between these historic rivals, there’s little doubt that publications up and down the country will be formulating the best combined Liverpool and Man United XI ahead of the game, based on opinion and/or stats.

But, what would a Liverpool and Man United combined XI look like based purely off FIFA 21 player ratings? Scroll down to find out.

Liverpool and Man United combined FIFA 21 XI

First, some ground rules. Firstly, players who are likely to be unavailable for this weekend’s game haven’t been considered, which rules out Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and more.

Also, the below Liverpool and Man United combined FIFA 21 XI has been based purely off FIFA 21 Career Mode ratings, not FIFA 21 Ultimate Team ratings, as players are restricted to certain positions on that game mode.

These ratings on FIFA 21 are accurate as of the latest player database update, which was released on January 11 for Xbox, PlayStation and PC.

So, without further ado, here’s the Liverpool and Man United combined FIFA 21 XI.

Liverpool and Man United combined FIFA 21 XI

GK: Alisson (Liverpool) – 90

RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) – 87

CB: Fabinho ( Liverpool ) – 87

CB: Harry Maguire (Man United) – 81

LB: Andy Robertson (Liverpool) – 87

CDM: Jordan Henderson (Liverpool) – 86

CM: Bruno Fernandes (Man United) – 88

CM: Paul Pogba (Man United) – 86

RW: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – 90

CF: Roberto Firmino (Liverpool) – 86

LW: Sadio Mane (Liverpool) – 90

Without Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez or Joel Matip, Fabinho has to move into the centre of defence for this strongest combined XI, otherwise, Fabinho would have to go into midfield and one of Eric Bailly (79) or Victor Lindelof (79) would have to be included, making the overall team weaker.

The likes of David De Gea (86), Marcus Rashford (85), Georginio Wijnaldum (85), Thiago (85), Edinson Cavani (84), Alex Telles (84) and Anthony Martial (83) are some of the players who miss out.

FIFA 21 TOTY release date, predictions, leaks and FUT 21 promo details

The FIFA Ultimate Team TOTY is the most popular promo of the year for FUT fans, which often sees the very best player items released.

Within any FIFA Ultimate Team season there are always a number of big FUT promos, where highly-rated player items are released into packs, these include FUT promos such as Headliners, Future Stars, Rulebreakers, Freeze, FUTMAS, TOTGS, Winter Refresh, FUT Birthday and many more.

But the FUT Team of Year event is the promo where the highest-rated player items are released, with twelve players, selected by the community, are given cards that are often up to 99-rated.

* Click here to subscribe to Level up! The Esports and Gaming Show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts and Spreaker.*

For example, in FIFA 20 Ultimate Team last year, Virgil van Dijk, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s TOTY items were 99-rated, with Kylian Mbappe, Kevin De Bruyne given 98-rated TOTY items, whilst Sadio Mane, N’Golo Kante and Alisson were given 97-rated TOTY items.

Due to their high ratings and incredible attributes, these TOTY items are likely to be the very best FUT player items that will be released throughout the entire season, with only the Team of the Season promo coming close, and therefore will be much sought-after items with high values on the transfer market.

So, when will the FIFA 21 TOTY promo be released? And, which players are likely to be included in the FUT 21 TOTY?

Check out all the latest info on the FIFA 21 TOTY promo below.

FIFA 21 TOTY Promo Release Date

When EA SPORTS confirmed that voting was underway on Thursday January 7, the FIFA 21 TOTY promo page on EA’s official website stated that voting for the FUT 21 TOTY closes on January 18, with the final Team of the Year to announced later in January, when special TOTY player items featuring some of the highest ratings of the season will be released in FUT 21 to celebrate each player’s incredible performances.

FUT 21 TOTY promo logo

Historically, TOTY promos begin on a Monday, with the winning players from the community vote being unveiled throughout the week. In FUT 20, the TOTY promo began on Monday January 6, 2020. In FUT 19, the TOTY promo began on Monday January 7, 2019.

Therefore, it seems likely that the FUT 21 TOTY promo will start releasing players into packs from Monday January 25, 2021.

However, prominent FUT community member @DonkTrading has stated on Twitter that a leaked code from the EA SPORTS website shows that the FUT 21 TOTY will be revealed on Friday January 22, 2021.

The code within the website says: “See who made the Ultimate XI on January 22!”

So, will the FUT 21 TOTY Ultimate XI be revealed on Friday January 22, with the players then starting to be released in packs from Monday January 25? Or, will EA SPORTS simply unveil and release the players on Friday January 22?

We’ll have to wait and see, but it’s likely to be one of those two dates for the FUT 21 TOTY promo to begin.

FIFA 21 TOTY Promo Details

The FIFA 21 Team of the Year (TOTY) is the biggest and most popular FUT promo, with the event featuring a selection of players based on their performances over the last calendar year, who are given special blue FUT items with significant upgrades and the best ratings of any FUT promo.

But what makes the FUT TOTY promo different to other FUT promos is that the team of eleven players that make up the Team of the Year squad, plus a 12th player, is decided by EA SPORTS FIFA community members by vote, with 70 TOTY Nominees up for selection.

The TOTY is normally made up of one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards, where each category can contain a player in any position.

FUT 21 TOTY Campaign Highlights:

  • TOTY is football awards, corrected: the Ultimate XI, influenced by the community and for all.
  • FIFA Ultimate Team’s one squad to rule them all, with some of the best items from the entire cycle, available selectively at first and then all at once, for a limited time.
  • Themed puzzle, Squad Building Challenge, and Objective content to support the broader squad driven campaign

The voting for the FUT 21 Team of the Year squad began on Thursday January 7, 2021 at 4PM GMT. The FIFA 21 Ultimate Team TOTY voting is live now at EA.COM/TOTY.

FIFA 21 Title Update 8 patch notes confirmed featuring FUT match ball change

The FIFA 21 Title Update 8 includes a change where players will now see their own equipped match ball online, rather than their opponents’.

This is the latest major update to FIFA 21 by EA SPORTS, which has been released today for players on PC and will be coming soon to players on Xbox and PlayStation.

Other major changes include adjustments to the Team Press D-Pad tactic, Stepover and Reverse Step Over skill moves, defender positioning, referee logic and more.

There will also be a major visual update included in this patch, with 34 new Starheads and 29 existing Starheads updated, which EA SPORTS say will be activated at a later date through a Server Release.

There are other major changes to other aspects and game modes within FIFA 21 in the latest update including, FIFA Ultimate Team, Volta Football, Career Mode, and some other audio and visual changes too.

Here are the full confirmed patch notes for the FIFA 21 Title Update 8, which is now live on PC, coming soon to Xbox and PlayStation.

FIFA 21 Title Update 8 full patch notes

The latest Title Update (Title Update 8) for FIFA 21 is now available on PC and coming soon to Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, with the update including the changes below.

Gameplay

Made the following changes:

  • Made several adjustments to the Team Press D-Pad Tactic.
    • Decreased the amount of time the Team Press D-Pad Tactic can be active for, before requiring cooldown, from 20 seconds to 15 seconds.
    • Once Team Press is requested, its effect takes 2 seconds to activate.
    • In situations where the defending team is using Team Press and recovers possession, Team Press will not automatically remain active on the following loss of possession.
  • Made several adjustments to Stepover and Reverse Step Over Skill Moves.
    • Both Skill Moves are no longer considered Easy Skill Moves and will be less effective when chained together while moving.
    • The animations for both Skill Moves have been slowed down.
    • Decreased player transition speed when exiting either Skill Move at forward angles.

Addressed the following issues:

  • The goalkeeper sometimes gets stuck to the net geometry and is unable to put the ball into play, resulting in matches not finishing within the expected time.
  • After a defender positioned themselves in front of the ball carrier following a heavy touch, the defender sometimes did not contest the ball.
  • Improved referee penalty kick logic in situations where the goalkeeper dives at the ball carrier’s feet.
  • Improved referee logic when making decisions in breakaway tackling situations outside of the box.
  • When a goalkeeper moved then stood still during a penalty kick, they could sometimes deflect the ball into their own net when it was hit directly at them.
    • This does not affect other types of potential deflections that could occur.
  • In situations where the ball carrier would start a shooting animation, but the shot was cancelled in time, the defender could sometimes perform an unintended blocking animation.

FIFA Ultimate Team

Made the following changes:

  • In online matches, players will no longer see their opponent’s equipped Ball Item, they will instead always see their own.
  • Co-Op Squad Battles matches can now be paused during gameplay by either player.
  • Co-Op Squad Battles matches no longer have a pause limit.

Addressed the following issues:

  • After claiming FUT Coins from Team Event Objectives, the overall FUT Coin total did not increase until FUT was exited and re-entered.
    • The correct amount of FUT Coins was being claimed, this issue only impacted when the display of the overall total would increase.
  • When a previously locked Objective group was unlocked, it continued to display as locked until the player exited and re-entered FUT.
  • The Co-Op widget could stop responding after the Pricing filter was used during a Transfer Market search.
  • After engaging with the Recommended Consumable Search option found in the Radial Menu, not all menu navigation button callouts were functioning as expected.
  • If a Co-Op Lobby guest left the Lobby while the Host was opening a pack, the Host’s menu background would incorrectly display.
  • When previewing Goal Music, Chant, Anthem, and Crowd Items in My Stadium, the audio would reset if the previewed Item was selected.
  • The progress UI would animate every time the Community Event screen was visited.
  • Updated Competitor Mode description.
  • The Club name was incorrectly displayed when viewing Player Ratings in the pause menu.
  • Updated the FUT Champions Qualification Points icon displayed on the Weekend League details screen.
  • Trophies displayed in Milestone Objectives were not facing in the correct direction.
  • Updated background on the pop up that displays when choosing a Season reward that has multiple choices.
  • When a Community Event was completed, the UI did not display correctly.
  • Addressed a potential stability issue that could occur in a Co-Op lobby.
  • Repetitive commentary could occur during some corner kicks.

Career Mode

Made the following change:

  • The potential quality of Youth Players is now more aligned with the general football region that they come from.

Addressed the following issues:

  • Player OVRs could remain unrealistically high in their 30s, resulting in players retiring seemingly at their peak.
  • Addressed further instances of Strikers taking too long to be retrained as Center Forwards.

VOLTA FOOTBALL

Addressed the following issues:

  • Some hairstyles did not display correctly.
  • Updated a typo on the message that displays when discarding items.

Pro Clubs

Addressed the following issue:

  • A Virtual Pro’s customised boot colours did not always save.

General, Audio, and Video

Made the following changes:

  • Updated badges, kits, 2D portraits, stadiums, and ad boards.
  • Added 34 new Starheads and updated 29 existing Starheads which will be activated at a later date through a Server Release.
    • Stay tuned to the EA SPORTS FIFA Tracker to learn when these Starheads will become active.

Addressed the following issues:

  • The Nike Serie A TIM Merlin 2019 Hi Vis ball did not display a shadow in game.
  • The inactivity timer did not start while the Origin overlay was active in some online matches.

*FIFA 21 is out now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. The next generation version of FIFA 21 is also available now on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PlayStation 5.

FIFA 21 TOTW 16 predictions featuring Antoine Griezmann and Memphis Depay

The FUT 21 TOTW 16 lineup could include both Antoine Griezmann and Memphis Depay this week, with no Premier League players featuring.

It’s highly likely that no Premier League players will be included in the FIFA 21 Team of the Week 16 lineup, because there have been no Premier League fixtures, with clubs involved in domestic cup action over the past week, which don’t count towards TOTW selections.

However with three Premier League fixtures set to take place on Tuesday January 12, including Manchester United vs Burnley, Sheffield United vs Newcastle United and Wolves vs Everton, an exceptional individual performance from one of these games could lead to a late TOTW inclusion. We will update this article to reflect that, if that is the case.

* Click here to subscribe to Level up! The Esports and Gaming Show, the podcast is available on Spreaker, Spotify, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.*

This means that the FUT 21 TOTW 16 lineup is likely to feature FC Barcelona forward Griezmann, who scored twice and registered an assist in Blaugrana’s 4-0 win against Granada. Lyon forward Depay also has a good chance of being included, after scoring twice in their 3-2 win against RC Lens.

Borussia Dortmund duo Marco Reus and Jadon Sancho both have a great chance of earning an in-form too, with both registering two goal contributions in their vital win against RB Leipzig. But, despite scoring twice, striker Erling Haaland will not be included in TOTW 16 as he was included in the FUT Headliners Team 2.

Check out our FIFA 21 Ultimate Team TOTW 16 predictions in full below.

FIFA 21 Ultimate Team TOTW (Team of the Week) 16 predictions

The FUT 21 TOTW 16 lineup will be picked on single performances only, so goals and assists are not added cumulatively within the TOTW period.

Also note that performances in domestic cup competitions do not count towards TOTW selection criteria. Only one player from any one team can be included in a TOTW lineup, barring exceptional circumstances.

Antoine Griezmann could be included in the FUT 21 TOTW 16 lineup

Also note that players included in either of the last two TOTW lineups are ineligible, as are players who have featured in a recent FUT 21 promo.

This is just a FUT 21 TOTW 16 prediction, so there is no guarantee that any players mentioned below will be included.

GK:Michael Esser (Hannover 96)

RB: Danilo ( Juventus /Piemonte Calcio)

LB: Jose Gaya (Valencia)

CB: Romain Thomas (Angers)

CM: Marcelo Brozovic (Inter)

CM: Dani Parejo (Villarreal)

RM: Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund)

LW: Antoine Griezmann (FC Barcelona)

CF: Josip Ilicic (Atalanta)

CF: Memphis Depay (Lyon)

ST: Kevin Volland (AS Monaco)

Other players who could feature in the FUT 21 Team of the Week 16 include Marco Reus, Lionel Messi, Paulo Dybala, Kenny Lala, Jason Denayer, Youssef En-Nesyri, Mauro Icardi, Gerard Moreno and Erin Zahavi.

The FIFA 21 Ultimate Team TOTW 16 squad is set to be announced at 6pm on Wednesday, January 13 2021, with the cards available in packs from 6pm on the same day.

The EA SPORTS FIFA Team of the Week will be revealed and released into packs at 6pm UK time every Wednesday this season.
