Proposal against CAA will not be brought in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly? NCP leader Ajit Pawar clarified the situation
A proposal has been introduced in the Legislative Assembly of several states against the recently amended Citizenship Amendment Act i.e. CAA by the Central Government. Such states include Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan and West Bengal. There were speculations that a resolution against this law would be passed in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly as well. However Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar has clarified the situation on the matter.
From the statement of Ajit Pawar, it can be said that the proposal against the CAA will not be introduced in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He has said that there is a single party government in Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan and West Bengal passing the proposal against CAA. Not so in Maharashtra, there is a coalition government of three parties (NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena).
He further said that our Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has clearly said that CAA and NRC should not trouble anyone. These are our thoughts.
Proposal against CAA passed on Monday in West Bengal
After Kerala, Punjab and Rajasthan, the West Bengal Legislative Assembly also passed a resolution against it on Monday. On this occasion, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that this protest is not only for the minorities but also for everyone.
What is citizenship law?
The citizenship law provides for citizenship to the oppressed Hindus, Sikhs, Christians and Parsis living in neighboring Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The Citizenship Amendment Act has been passed in both houses of Parliament. The President has also been stamped. Since then, it has been continuously protesting against it.
