Love Island’s Demi Jones thanks fans for support after cancer diagnosis at 22

Love Island star has thanked her fans for their incredible support in wake of the news that she had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

The 22-year-old reality star, who shot to fame when she appeared on the show in 2020, confirmed on social media yesterday that she requires more surgery after the diagnosis.

Addressing her followers in a touching message, Demi revealed that her phone has been off the hook and she has been inundated with love and support.

She also added that she would be keeping her fans updated at every step of her battle against cancer.

“My phone is literally blowing up!” she wrote on her Instagram story.

She added: “The love has been incredible. I’ll keep you all updated on my journey every step of the way. I wish I could reply to all of you. thank you as always, love Demi x”

Demi’s message came hours after she revealed her diagnosis to her 1.1 million Instagram followers. In April, the reality star had a golf ball size lump removed from her throat that doctors warned could be cancerous. While she has had the tumour removed, the reality star will now have to have the rest of her Thyroid also operated on.

“Hi guys, I got my results today and unfortunately I have Thyroid cancer,” she explained to followers on Thursday.

“The tumour has been removed but I’m now due to have more surgery to remove the rest of my Thyroid.

She added: “I’m staying very positive and I’m a strong girl so I’ll be fine, thank you for your love and support always. I’ll bounce back stronger.”

Demi has also urged her fans to make sure they check their lumps and reach out to their GP if they are worried in order to stay healthy.

Thyroid cancer is a rare form of cancer affecting the thyroid gland which is at the base of your neck.

Demi has received lots of supportive messages from her pals after unveiling the news. Among them, was a message from Love Islander Shaughna Phillips that left Demi ‘crying’.

“My sweet, gentle, beautiful girl, the same message I was giving you in the video applies today more than ever. Game face on my girl, you’ve got this” Shaughna shared on social media.
