Is it necessary to wear a mask when you use a mask? | The State

With the coronavirus pandemic at its highest point in practically the whole world, although the recommendation is not to leave the house, from time to time we must go out either to do our work or to solve any pending issue.

For a few months, we must wear mask if we walk down the street, although there are people who have chosen to use transparent plastic masks, with which they protect their eyes, nose and mouth.

But the big question is whether this face shield is enough or is it better to also use it with the mask.

Health experts indicate that it is optimal to use both.

Masks can give that feeling of not feeling limited and also allow you to show your full face; however, these items do not provide the same protection as masks.

Plastic shields do not absorb the droplets on your breath like the fabric cover of the mask does; they simply deflect some of the droplets downward. Because face shields are open at the bottom, there is a chance that germs on a person’s breath could escape into the air, which is exactly how SARS-CoV-2 spreads. That is why experts do not recommend wearing a face shield instead of a mask.

Masks protect your eyes from exposure to viral particles and can prevent you from touching your face. And if you’re in a high-risk circumstance, like caring for someone who is sick with COVID-19, wearing a shield in addition to a mask can offer an extra layer of protection for your mouth and nose.

If you decide to wear a face shield, be sure to wear a cloth mask underneath. And wash the face shield after each use to remove germs that stick to the surface of the plastic.
