Heartwarming moment man, 80, sees color for the first time through color blind glasses

Heartwarming footage has captured the moment an 80-year-old man saw in full color for the first time after his grandchildren gave him color blind glasses for Christmas.  

Lee Meason, from Springville, Utah, was caught on video exclaiming ‘are you kidding me?’ as he tried on the pink glasses and was surprised to see colors and shades he had never seen before.

‘I see stuff different than I did before!’ he told family members as he gazed around the room and down at the shirt he was wearing.

His son Spencer Meason shared the special moment on social media saying it was a ‘fantastic gift’ and that his dad’s reaction was ‘priceless’.   

The video begins with the 80-year-old sitting in an armchair opening a box. 

‘Color tech glasses,’ he says, with a bemused smile on his face as he lifts off the lid. 

A woman’s voice off camera is heard saying: ‘Yes I remembered.’  

A male voice is heard saying: ‘They’re supposed to be kinda cool. Open them up, Try them on.’ 

Meason then takes the pink glasses out of the box and passes them to someone nearby while saying ‘wow.’ 

He remarks that he ‘could go fly a jet’ with the aviator-style pink shades on as his family tell him ‘they look cool’. 

Meason takes the glasses and puts them on.

He looks around in shock for a few seconds before saying ‘are you kidding me?’ as he sees color for the first time through the special lenses. 

The woman is heard asking: ‘Are you kidding me? Do they really work?’ 

Meason gazes around the room with a look of amazement on his face.

‘Look at that lamp over there,’ the woman says.

‘Wow yeah I didn’t know it was like that!’ exclaims Meason. 

His overjoyed family members say they have now ‘gotta teach him colors’ as they start pointing out things off-camera and telling him what color they are.  

‘Are you kidding me? Where the hell did you find these’ Meason exclaims again of the glasses, as they all laugh happily and he keeps saying ‘wow’ and ‘ahh’. 

The 80-year-old tries to take it all in, gazing round the room and up at the ceiling before looking at his own arm and his patterned green shirt.

‘I didn’t know it had different shades in it,’ he says, touching the fabric. 

‘How the hell do they work?’

His family also cannot believe their eyes, with the woman asking: ‘I’m just wondering if they really do work?’

Meason replies: ‘They do! They do! I see stuff different than I did before.’

The 80-year-old’s son wrote on Facebook that the glasses were a Christmas present from the grandchildren.  

‘Grandpa Lee Measom SEES COLOR FOR THE FIRST TIME!! What a precious special moment!!’ Spencer wrote in Tuesday’s post, alongside the video. 

‘My dad turned 80 this year. His reaction is priceless! 

‘I’m super grateful for my children who had the vision to get such a fantastic gift for their grandfather!! Happy Christmas Dad! We love you!’
