Saddam Assana was arrested in connection with the Manhattan (NYC) apartment fire that left one person dead earlier this month, the police reported yesterday.
Authorities responded to the flames unleashed in an apartment on 9th Avenue and West 56 Street in Hell’s Kitchen the morning of September 4.
After the fire was extinguished, Michael Hannant (37) was found unconscious inside the apartment. It was taken to hospital, where he died five days later.
The incident was later listed as a homicide, said the police. A firefighter also suffered a minor injury while putting out the fire, he detailed. Pix11.
Assana (28), who lived a few blocks away from the crime scene, allegedly set the fire from inside the building, but it was not immediately clear if he and Hannant knew each other.
