Former EastEnders actor Tony Discipline has revealed he’s quit acting and decided to become a firefighter.

The former BBC star played Alfie Moon’s cousin Tyler Moon from 2011 until 2013, but has since decided to leave the small screen behind him.

Tony, 31, shared a snap in his London Fire Brigade uniform earlier this month as he unveiled his career change to fans on Instagram.

The actor, who previously dated Jacqueline Jossa, posed in front of a fire engine wearing his LFB red t-shirt and khaki trousers held up with braces for his announcement.

The star had previously hinted at his new job back in March when he posed in his uniform – but fans assumed he was dressed for a new acting role.

Fans flooded to the comments section to congratulate Tony, with fellow former EastEnders star James Forde, who became a builder after leaving the show, commenting: “Fair play geeza good on ya! We’ve both gone back down to reality!”

Tony’s Walford character Tyler arrived on the square with dad Eddie and brother Anthony and helped run their antiques shop and was even engaged to Whitney before his exit.

Alfie Moon’s lovable cousin departed Walford in August 2013 to work on a cruise ship with brother Anthony after breaking up with Whitney Dean.

After his departure, he stared in short film Birds and Dogs and appeared in mini-series Murder in the Carpark in June.

Tony revealed he was open to a return to the soap back in 2017, but it seems a comeback wasn’t to be.

He told Inside Soap at the time: “When it was time to leave the show, I didn’t want to go – however, there were no more storylines for Tyler.

“The best thing to do was have him go off on that cruise, but it’s been a blimmin’ long holiday. I think it’s time he came back.

“When I got the call for EastEnders, it was like winning the lottery. I was working at Billingsgate Fish Market in the day and going to acting classes at night.

“It was so surreal to go from selling sea bass to being stopped in the street and asked for a picture.”

Tony found himself hitting headlines when he and Jacqueline Jossa were brought together on screen as Lauren Branning and Tyler Moon.

They started dating off-camera in 2011 and were very close for a while but after 18 months, they decided to call it a day and remarkably, parted amicably.

Jacqueline went on to marry TOWIE star Dan Osbourne and has two children with him and is very much still living life in the spotlight.
