Five players Man Utd could sign after Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon failures
[ad_1]
Manchester United’s summer transfer window plans have taken a hit as Borussia Dortmund appear to have the advantage again in talks for Jadon Sancho.
The Red Devils appeared to have agreed personal terms and agents fees with the Englishman before the German side’s sporting director said he ‘would be playing for Dortmund’ this season.
With 20 goals and 20 assists last season, the 20-year-old was seen as strong addition to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s front-three.
Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale had been seen as an alternative while team-mate Sergio Reguilon was identified as a defensive addition – but Tottenham appear to have nabbed both players.
Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial scored 44 Premier League goals out of the club’s 66 – but they were still 33 points off champions Liverpool.
They also conceded 36 goals in the last campaign, leading to a call for Harry Maguire to get a more solid defensive partner as well as cover for Nemanja Matic in defensive midfield.
So we’ve taken a look at five players who could still sign on at Old Trafford before the end of the window.
Adama Traore
Manchester United are looking to plot their path back to the top. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already brought in Donny van de Beek but Jadon Sancho remains Manchester United’s number one target.

With Sancho slipping away, it saw Solskjaer switch to “Plan B”, bringing in an “experienced head on loan coupled by a younger player”.
That experience player appeared to be Bale, who has been cast out by Real Madrid as he appeared in just two games since lockdown.
While United will miss out on a four-time Champions League winner, they are still an attractive prospect to a player with Europa League experience.
Wolves forward Traore blew teams away with his power and pace last year, scoring nine goals and making 12 assists.
United have already expressed an interest in the 24-year-old, who would cost money but provide a different aspect to Solskjaer’s attack.
Alex Sandro
Reguilon had been eyed up to provide competition for Luke Shaw at left-back, with teenager Brandon Williams taking that role last season.
But the club have been long-term admirers of Sandro, making an approach for the Brazilian in the 2018/19 season.
At 29 years old, the defender has enjoyed five years with Juventus by winning the Serie A title every season.
United could therefore draw Sandro to Old Trafford with the promise of a Premier League title campaign and Champions League football – but they may have to yield on the fee.
Uros Racic
While Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes stole the headlines last season, one player that worked hard for Solskjaer is Matic.
The Serb worked hard in front of United’s defence, losing just six of his 34 appearances.
But the 32-year-old could be about to get cover in Racic, who spent last season on loan from Valencia at Portuguese side Famalicao.
With Serbian U21 international caps, the 6ft 4in midfielder is seen as a like-for-like alternative to Matic.
And United have already been keeping their eye on him, with a £28m transfer on the cards.
Kalidou Koulibaly
The Napoli defender is regarded as one of the best defenders in Europe, earning transfer links to several clubs.
Koulibaly has been more heavily linked with a move to rivals Manchester City – but the Old Trafford side are set to pounce amid a strain in the relationship between the two sides.
Solskjaer has struggled to find a defensive partner for captain Maguire who has not been hit by injury.
But, with 250 Napoli appearances and European experience under his belt, United could pounce on the chance to sign the 29-year-old.
Lautaro Martinez
Inter Milan have developed an incredible young talent in Martinez, with the 23-year-old getting 21 goals in 49 games last season.
He was believed to have been on the way to Barcelona, joining up with international team-mate Lionel Messi.
But the Spanish side appear to be improving their attacking line with Lyon’s Memphis Depay.
United were one of several clubs to keep tabs on Martinez, with Solskjaer looking for more goals to get into the title race.
With Sancho appearing to be off this summer, though, the 21-year-old Argentine could jump up the priority list at Old Trafford.
