Kai Havertz has finally completed his move to Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen for a club-record fee.

The German was always set to leave the Bundesliga outfit following an impressive season.

Several of Europe’s heavyweights were linked with the 21-year-old but it was Chelsea who actively pursued his services.

Blues director Marina Granovskaia, as ever, was crucial to negotiating the £62m deal, that could rise further.

Havertz becomes the sixth new face to arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer and was delighted to finally seal his switch to west London.

He told the club’s official website : “I am very happy and proud to be here, For me it is a dream come true to play in a big club like Chelsea.

“I can’t wait to meet all the players and the trainers. Yeah, I am very happy to be here!”

Havertz last season scored 18 times in 45 games for a Leverkusen side that finished fifth in the Bundesliga.

And Granovskaia believes Chelsea have acquired one of the best young players in the game.

She said: “Kai is one of the best players of his age in world football, so we are very happy that his future lies at Chelsea.

“He has proven pedigree in one of the best leagues in Europe, he plays for the German national side and he is an exciting, dynamic talent.

“We are delighted to be able to add his versatility and quality to the squad before the season begins.”

Chelsea have enjoyed a hugely successful transfer window having already raided the Bundesliga for Timo Werner.

Hakim Ziyech signed from Ajax several months ago and Ben Chilwell recently completed his move from Leicester.

Thiago Silva joined on a free having left PSG and youngster Malang Sarr has joined but sent straight out on loan to gain experience.
