Man Utd’s likely line up vs Crystal Palace as Van de Beek to make debut

Manchester United will get their Premier League season started as they host Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Red Devils were given an extra week off after reaching the semi-finals of the postponed 2019/20 Europa League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be looking to stars such as Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes to get United off to a strong start.

It will also be a chance for Donny van de Beek to make his competitive debut in red, having arrived from Ajax for £34m last month.

And the 23-year-old could get a place in the starting line up against the Eagles this coming Saturday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already brought in Donny van de Beek but Jadon Sancho remains Manchester United’s number one target.

However, they have so far failed to agree a deal with Borussia Dortmund and are considering Gareth Bale as an alternative.

The Dutchman would play alongside Fernandes in attacking midfield, with Nemanja Matic sitting behind them.

This sees Pogba miss out on a place in the starting XI but the Frenchman suffered a coronavirus scare, which has put his fitness for the game at risk.

Fernandes and van de Beek would have United’s front three of Martial, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford to aim.

The trio scored 44 of the Old Trafford side’s 66 goals in the Premier League last season and are expected to be on firing form again.

Greenwood may have faced a ban after his breach of quarantine regulations on England duty as the forward and Manchester City player Phil Foden bring two Icelandic girls into their hotel.

But the club have not made any statements saying the 18-year-old will miss any match action because of it.

At the back, captain Harry Maguire is expected to partner with Victor Lindelof as Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw run the wings.

The £80m defender is another one who has faced controversy recently, found guilty of three charges following a brawl on the Greek island of Mykonos last month.

Solskjaer, though, has not taken the captaincy away from the Englishman and he is expected to play against Palace.

While goalkeeper David de Gea is the club’s most expensive player on a weekly basis, a chance could be given to Dean Henderson.

The shot-stopper signed a new long-term deal at Old Trafford after grabbing 14 clean sheets on loan at Sheffield United last season.

Solskajer hinted at the 23-year-old’s selection last week by calling him a “proper man United keeper” – and could get his chance on Saturday.

The latest training images from Carrington also suggest youngsters Scott McTominay and Brandon Williams could play a part from the bench.

While Andreas Pereira, who could be on the way out after the arrival of van de Beek, was also getting involved with exercises.

Academy starlet Teden Mengi was also snapped in a training exercise with Fernandes, who Solskjaer singled out as a “special” talent this month.
