Arsenal chiefs ‘offered to swap two stars’ in Thomas Partey transfer talks

[ad_1]

Arsenal chiefs have reportedly discussed offering two players in a swap deal as they try to secure the signing of Thomas Partey.

The Gunners have been linked with Partey all summer, but Atletico Madrid are insistent that the midfielder’s £45million release clause be met in full.

Arsenal have already signed centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille for £27m, and have handed Willian a bumper contract following the former Chelsea winger’s free transfer.

Dani Ceballos is the latest player to join after Real Madrid sanctioned another season-long loan for the midfielder.

And with Pablo Mari and Cedric Suares having made their loan moves permanent, and the Gunners hoping to tie down Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to a new deal, the budget is soon being eaten up.

Arsenal are still to pull off a deal for Thomas Partey

That’s why Arsenal have offered midfielder Matteo Guendouzi and striker Alexandre Lacazette to Atletico, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

“For sure they spoke with Atletico Madrid,” Romano told Lee Gunner on his YouTube channel.

“It was during the meeting they had for Thomas, the first time it was in July.

“They spoke about Matteo Guendouzi and they spoke also about Lacazette.

“But at the moment, Atletico Madrid was not going for Lacazette.”

The journalist also predicted that Lacazette could become caught up in “a domino effect” of striker transfers once one of several in-demand forwards moved this summer.

However, he doesn’t believe the striker – who has two years left on the Gunners contract – will end up at Atletico.

“We will have to wait a bit to see about this situation because it will also depend on what will happen to other clubs if Atletico Madrid will sell for example Diego Costa and what will happen with Luis Suarez,” Romano added.

“I think in September we will have a domino effect about strikers – with Lacazette, Luis Suarez, Edin Dzeko, Edinson Cavani who has agreements with Benfica.

“When we have the first one to move, we will have many others as well but I don’t think Lacazette will play in Italy or in Spain.”
