And according to ESPN, Solskjaer’s advice to United’s executive vice chairman Woodward, went some way to turning things around.

The publication claims that Solskjaer convinced Woodward to start valuing dressing room harmony over signing big-name players.

The Norwegian believed that Alexis Sanchez being on a whopping £500,000-a-week resulted in the other players in the dressing room questioning their worth to the team.

Once Sanchez was removed from the equation, the equal playing field helped solve the divide in the dressing room, which in turn saw improved performances on the pitch.

Sanchez completed a permanent move to Inter Milan this summer after a successful loan spell with the Serie A club last season.

Alexis Sanchez admitted he didn’t really like it at Manchester United

In a video on Instagram, the Chilean revealed he didn’t like it at United and even tried to terminate his contract after his first day at Carrington.

Sanchez said: “The first training I had I realised many things. I got home and I told my representative: ‘Can’t the contract be terminated to return to Arsenal?’

“They start laughing and I told them that something did not sit right with me. It had already been signed.”
