Man Utd transfer roundup: Upamecano next target, Thiago talks open, Fred stance
[ad_1]
Manchester United’s transfer window has been relatively underwhelming so far.
Despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly close to confirming his first signing of the summer, the Red Devils remain in stalled negotiations with Borussia Dortmund over a deal for Jadon Sancho.
The increased transfer activity of Manchester City and Chelsea – two clubs who will rival United next season – has left supporters somewhat frustrated at the lack of arrivals at Old Trafford.
If the Red Devils are to narrow the gap on City and Liverpool in the Premier League, at least two or three top signings are needed.
While an impressive end to the 2019/20 campaign included qualification for the Champions League, there was also a strong impression left that United need to recruit players both in terms of added quality and depth.
Here are the latest Manchester United transfer rumours.
Man Utd ‘open talks’ over Thiago transfer
Manchester United have reportedly made contact with Thiago Alcantara’s representatives as they join Liverpool in the hunt for the Bayern Munich midfielder.
The Premier League champions have been widely considered the favourites to land Thiago after he informed Bayern he wanted to seek a new challenge elsewhere.
However, Liverpool have yet to meet Bayern’s £27million asking price
And United have decided to take advantage of their rivals’ tardiness by opening talks with Thiago’s advisers, according to Bild.
Upamecano next target for United
United are reportedly set to turn their transfer attentions to RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.
The Times report the Red Devils will soon look to sign the highly-rated centre back once a deal for van de Beek has been officially completed.
Upamecano recently signed a new contract with the Bundesliga outfit which includes a £37.5m release clause.
While that clause doesn’t come into effect until next summer, United are believed to be confident of signing him for a similar fee during this transfer window.

Brazilian midfielder Fred is confident of remaining at Old Trafford this summer despite Donny van de Beek being set to join the club.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Fred has no intentions of leaving even if it means limited minutes on the pitch in 2020/21.
While he has produced inconsistent performances in a United shirt, Fred is believed to have a good working relationship with the coaching staff at Old Trafford.
The prospect of him leaving before the end of the transfer window remains slim, which means that Solskjaer could have a wide range of midfield options at his disposal.
