Donny van de Beek’s £40million move to Manchester United is a “dream come true” for the Dutch star, claims his dad.

And Virgil van Dijk has welcomed van de Beek’s switch from Ajax to the Premier League, even though he is moving to Liverpool ’s fiercest rivals.

Van de Beek’s dad, Andre, visited Manchester with the midfielder and says it is the “perfect moment” to join such a “beautiful club”.

He said: “This is a dream come true. Our local village is very proud.

“It’s the perfect moment for him to make this step to such a beautiful club, but Ajax will always remain in our heart.”

United fought off a late bid from Tottenham to agree a £40million deal with Ajax on Sunday and Andre says he only wanted to move to Old Trafford.

“A lot of clubs were interested, but Donny took this decision himself.”

Van de Beek, 23, has joined up with van Dijk with the Holland squad and the Liverpool star claims it is great for their national side to have another player in the Premier League.
