Man Utd ‘expecting new Chris Smalling transfer bid’ from Roma

Manchester United are said to be waiting on a fresh bid from Roma for their defender Chris Smalling as they look to free up room in their squad for new signings.
Smalling impressed on loan at Roma last season, making 30 Serie A appearances and helping his side towards a fifth place finish.
He has now returned to Old Trafford following the expiry of his loan, but is believed to be keen on moving to Roma on a permanent basis after enjoying his spell in Italy.
United rejected a £13m bid from Roma for the 30-year-old in November last year, but according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano they are anticipating another offer in the coming days.
He tweeted: ” Manchester United expect to receive a new bid soon from AS Roma to sell Chris Smalling on a permanent deal. Man Utd board are also working to sign a new CB if a ‘good opportunity’ will be on the market on next weeks.”
It remains to be seen for what price United would be willing to let Smalling go, but he almost certainly has no future at the club.
United are attempting to have a clear-out of some of their deadwood this summer, with the imminent arrival of Ajax attacking midfielder Donny van de Beek likely to be followed by more dealings in the transfer market.

And Smalling, along with the likes of Andreas Pereira and Jesse Lingard, is seen as one of the more expendable members of the squad.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly told the club he wants at least three more signings, and is targeting a new centre-back, winger and striker.
Dortmund star Jadon Sancho remains his No.1 target this summer, but as of yet the German club are still not budging on their £108m valuation of the player.
