White House clarifies on unfollowing PM Modi’s Twitter account

Washington. The White House on Wednesday clarified that its twitter handle usually follows the Twitter account of officials of host countries for a short period during the US presidential visit to retweet their messages in support of the visit.

During President Donald Trump’s visit to India in the last week of February, the official Twitter handle of the White House asked President Ramnath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prime Minister’s Office, the Indian Embassy in the US, the US Embassy in India and US Ambassador to India Ken Juster Started following the account. Earlier this week, the White House unfollowed all six of these twitter handles.

A senior administrative official while answering questions said that the White House Twitter account generally follows the Twitter accounts of senior US government officials and others. For example, during a President’s visit, he follows the authorities of the host countries for a period so that his messages in support of the visit can be retweeted.
