Kashmir / Omar Abdullah released after detention of 232 days, All charges dismissed under PSA

Srinagar. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was released after 232 days of house arrest. Omar Abdullah was charged with instigating people under the PSA. The charges leveled by the police under PAS were withdrawn on Tuesday, following which orders were issued for Omar’s release. Omar was taken into custody on 5 August after Article 370 was removed from Jammu and Kashmir. Apart from them, Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti were also detained. Farooq Abdullah was released on 13 March.

Omar’s sister Sarah Pilot challenged the brother’s custody under the Public Safety Act 1978 (PSA). The Supreme Court had told the Jammu and Kashmir administration that if there is a plan to release Omar, do it soon. If you do not release him till next week, we will hear his sister’s petition on merit basis.

Farooq had said – release without Mehbooba-Omar incomplete

National Conference President Farooq Abdullah was released from house arrest on 13 March. Farooq’s detention period was extended three times. After the release, Farooq said – this freedom is incomplete without the release of Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. Now I will raise the voice of the people in Parliament.

Farooq met his son

Farooq met his son Umar Abdullah the day after his release. This was the first meeting of father and son in the last seven months. Both were together for about an hour. Along with Farooq, other members of the Abdullah family also met Omar. Several leaders, including PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti, are still under house arrest.

Opposition parties demanded release, Farooq released after 4 days
On 9 March, eight opposition parties demanded from the Center that the three former chief ministers of Jammu and Kashmir Farooq, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti be released immediately. Opposition leaders said that there is no record that the activities of these people have endangered national interests. NCP President Sharad Pawar, Trinamool President Mamata Banerjee, JDS leader HD Deve Gowda, CPM leader Sitaram Yechury, CPI’s D Raja, RJD leader Manoj Jha, former BJP leader Yashwant Sinha and Arun Shourie issued statements demanding release of former chief ministers . After this, the Center released Farooq Abdullah on 13 March.
