Indira Gandhi was the first female Prime Minister of India. The former Prime Minister of India was born on November 19, 1917. She was the daughter of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Filmmakers of Bollywood are always keen on making films based on politicians and politics of India. Here are a few fictional movies made on Indira Gandhi that should be on everyone’s must-watch list.

Movies made on Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi:

Aandhi (1975)

This movie was reportedly a tribute to the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and was supposed to based on her life. The movie was banned as Indira Gandhi was the PM back then. The ban was lifted after she lost the next elections. The story is based on the love story of Indira Gandhi and her husband Feroze Gandhi.

Kissa Kursi Ka (1977)

The movie Kissa Kursi Ka was directed by Amrit Nahata and is based on the controversies and the prints which were confiscated by the government during Indira Gandhi’s rule. The film exposes the work of the government and the decisions taken during the period of emergency.

Amu (2005)

Shonali Bose had written a novel and made a film on the same. The film, Amu starred Konkana Sen Sharma and the story revolves around the 1984 anti-Sikh riots of India where thousands of Sikhs were massacred.

Madras Café (2013)

This film did not directly revolve around the like of Indira Gandhi but, it revolves the assassination of her son, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Directed by Shootjit Sircar, the film stars John Abraham and Nargis Fakhri.

Indu Sarkar (2017)

Indu Sarkar, directed by Madhur Bhandarkar was released in 2016. It depicts the emergency era and also stars Kirti Kulhari, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Anupam Kher. The movie follows the life of the former Prime Minister closely.
