Bhima Koregaon violence case: Central government handed over investigation to NIA, Maharashtra Home Minister told against constitution
The central government has handed over the investigation of Bhima Koregaon violence case to the NIA. Maharashtra Home Minister and NCP leader Anil Deshmukh has strongly objected to this decision.
Mumbai / New Delhi: The investigation of the Bhima Koregaon violence case has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) by the central government. With this decision, Maharashtra and the Central Government have become cold. Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh targeted the central government, saying that the investigation of the Koregaon-Bhima violence case of 2018 has been transferred to the NIA without the consent of the state government.
NCP leader and Home Minister Deshmukh said, “I condemn this decision. It is against the constitution. “Until now, the Pune police was investigating the case.
Let me tell you that recently Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar had written a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and demanded to constitute an SIT to investigate the Elgar Parishad. Earlier, the central government transferred the investigation to the NIA.
The violence took place on 1 January 2018 near the Koregaon-Bhima War Memorial in Pune district. Every year a large number of Dalits come here. The police had claimed that on 31 December 2017 in Pune, Elgar Parishad caused violence due to inflammatory speeches. Later, some left-leaning activists, including Telugu poets Varavara Rao and Sudha Bhardwaj, were arrested.
Since the formation of the Congress-NCP-Shiv Sena government in Maharashtra, the ruling party leaders have been demanding that the Bhima Koregaon violence case be investigated afresh.
