Syncing Contacts and Finding People to Follow
How do I find people I know to follow on Instagram?
Connect contacts
To find people to follow on Instagram, you can look through people from your contact list:
- Go to your profile and tap .
- Tap Discover People > Contacts.
- Tap Connect Contacts > Allow Access.
- Tap Follow next to the people you’d like to follow.
Learn more about what happens when you connect Instagram to your phone’s contact list. You can also tap at the bottom of the screen to search for people you’d like to follow.
Disconnect contacts
To disconnect your contacts:
- Go to your profile and tap .
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Account > Contacts Syncing.
- Tap next to Connect Contacts to turn off contact syncing.
- Tap Disconnect.
What happens when I connect Instagram to my phone’s contact list?
When you connect Instagram with your phone or tablet’s contact list, you’ll be able to see a list of your contacts who are on Instagram. From there, you can choose contacts to follow.
When your contact list is connected, it’s periodically synced and securely stored on our servers. You can delete all your contacts or stop syncing your contacts from Instagram at any time. Keep in mind that if you delete your contacts, new contacts will still be uploaded unless you stop syncing on your device.
How do I find people I might like to follow on Instagram?
You can find people you might like to follow in Search. Tap at the bottom of the screen to go to Search.
- Scroll down to explore posts and videos you might like from accounts you’re not already following.
- Tap the search bar at the top to search for people, hashtags, places and events that interest you
How do I disconnect contact syncing and remove my contact list on Instagram?
To disconnect contact syncing:
- Go to your profile and tap .
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Account, then tap Contacts Syncing.
- Tap next to Connect Contacts, and then tap Disconnect.
If you disconnect contact syncing, the contact info you previously synced will be automatically removed from our systems.
How do I search on Instagram?
You can search for people and hashtags using the search bar at the top of Search & Explore. To search Instagram, tap > Search then choose whether you’re looking for Users or Hashtags.
You can search people by their name or username. The search results you see are based on a variety of factors, including the people you follow, who you’re connected to and what photos and videos you like on Instagram.
