New Delhi: There is a debate in the country about the National Register of Citizens (NRC). There is a fear in the minority community that the Central Government has amended the Citizenship Act (CAA) only to implement the NRC. The National Population Register (NPR) is also being linked to this. Protests are taking place across the country against the CAA. The Kerala and Punjab governments have also passed resolutions in the assembly against this law. The governments of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan have also spoken of not implementing it in their state. Famous writer Chetan Bhagat spoke openly on the issue of NRC in a conversation with NDTV. He said that because of NRC there is an atmosphere of fear among minorities. He also spoke about polarizing and doing identity-based politics on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
