Bidar, Karnataka / school booked for sedition, says never staged play against PM Modi
Bidar’s Shaheen school, which has been booked for sedition, has replied to DDPI notices and said that no programme which included drama against PM Modi was ever staged in the school
Days after a sedition case was slapped against a Karnataka school, its headmistress and a student’s mother for alleged involvement in staging of an anti-CAA play, the school management has said no such programme was organised.
In its reply to notices sent by the Bidar Deputy Director Public Instruction (DDPI) in the matter, the school said no play portraying Prime Minister Narendra Modi in poor light was staged.
“With regards to the subject in question, no such cultural programme took place in the primary or high school. No such play that abused the PM took place on that day. We have respect for our PM,” the school authorities said in their response to notices on January 31. The DDPI had sent two notices to Shaheen school on January 27 and 29.
Bidar DDPI Chandrashekhar, however, called the school’s response irrelevant and said that it seemed to be far away from the truth. “News cannot be published without facts. We know the reality. The school can’t say nothing happened and defend them.”
The DDPI added, “As per our investigation, if we find any truth in this, we will request our higher authorities to take action against the school.”
Speaking to India Today TV, Shaheen Group CEO Thouseef Madikeri said, “We got a notice from the DDPI. We said it was not a school annual day but a small activity. We received only one notice.”
As per DDPI officials, the first notice noted: “Your school has held a play against the CAA and abused the PM. The PM holds a constitutional post and abusing him is against the rules. This is also not good to do as an Indian citizen. For this kind of issue, your organization will be held directly responsibleUnder the 1983 Education Act, we can take back the aid and subsidies provided, and also strict action can be taken.”
