Door Malfunction on the Q Train from nyc
It could have ended in tragedy, but for now it’s just another anecdote in NYC’s troubled public transportation system.
According to a video released yesterday on Reddit, a Brooklyn-bound Q line train traveled with the door open as a passenger stuck his head out, crossing the Manhattan Bridge over the East River, Sunday night.
The sequence shows the right panel of the door open with the Brooklyn Bridge in the background, as the unidentified passenger holds onto a pole to record with his phone.
The person who uploaded the video said the door “opened at random”, with the train moving.
A representative from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) blamed the problem on staff. “NYCT’s (NY City Transit) initial review concludes that this incident was likely caused by human error, specifically, the door was not properly secured, “said spokesman Tim Minton.
The door was “misaligned” after the train left Manhattan’s Canal Street station just after 8:20 p.m. It was evacuated and taken out of service minutes later, at Brooklyn’s DeKalb Avenue station, added Minton, cited by New York Post.
