Jamie Carragher opens up his ‘nightmare’ Liverpool spell after Kepa horror show

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has revealed that he feels sorry for Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga after he endured another horror show during the 2-0 defeat on Sunday.
A brace from Sadio Mane was enough to give the Reds a relatively comfortable win in the end as they dominated proceedings throughout.
For Mane’s second, the Senegal international managed to close down Blues stopper Kepa and block his clearance before turning it into the back of the net.
It is yet another blemish on Kepa’s record after a catalogue of errors which have left Chelsea on the brink of signing another goalkeeper in Edouard Mendy from Rennes.
But with the criticism firing in for the Spaniard, Carragher said that he can sympathise with Kepa, who he claims is just in a low period at the minute.
Carragher told Sky Sports: ”Liverpool just strangled Chelsea in the second half in the midfield and the second goal was just more evidence of it. The reason they’re top players in the world is the pressing and they give 100 per cent.
“As players, you go through tough times at different times in his career and you actually feel a bit sorry for Kepa now. There’s a new goalkeeper that looks like he’s coming in so I don’t think there’s much more we can say about the goalkeeper.

“It must be tough for him and he’s going through a really tough period. Our job is to be critical at times, but I remember when I went through a similar period earlier in my career. It wasn’t going great and he’s going through his own nightmare at the moment.”
Meanwhile, Jamie Redknapp also heaped praise on Sadio Mane for his pressing game to force the mistake from Kepa.
“Mane is brilliant for the second goal as he looks to win it back for his team and he’s a great example for any player, the way he works so hard. You can’t have passengers in the modern game,” said Redknapp.
“When he loses the ball, his first thought is ‘can I get it back?’ A lot more ‘keepers will make mistakes but this is why they want to bring in a new No 1, we’ve seen why they’ve brought in a new left-back and we’ve seen why they bought Thiago Silva.
“I think the three players that made the mistakes for Chelsea today won’t be in the side when Frank has his best XI.”
