Bake Off stars’ most fabulous cake creations from chocolate to edible roses

With the new series of The Great British Bake Off soon hitting our screens, we’ve put together a lowdown of just some of the skills this year’s contestants have in their toolbox.
This year’s contestants are set to battle it out for the winning spot by completing baking challenges as they go along.
The contestants have already wowed their families and friends with their showstopping creations at home, and it’s safe to say their cakes are sure to wow the judges and viewers.
Below, we take a look at some of the most incredible cakes we can expect to see versions of when the hit Channel 4 show returns on Tuesday 22nd September.
Laura Adlington
Laura has treated her Instargram followers to frequent content of her baking creations, and it’s safe to say she knows a thing or two when it comes to creating an aesthetically pleasing cake.
Laura has said it’s her “happy place” when she’s baking, and it certainly translates into her stunning creations.
She stunned her followers with her incredible Biscoff cake, which included four layers of caramel cake sandwiched in-between Biscoff buttercream, all of which were coated with a white chocolate ganache and some Biscoff spread drips.
The cake was made for her dad’s birthday, and it certainly looked beautiful.
Laura turned heads with her stunning rose cake creation that was also made for a special occasion.
Revealing that the cake was made for a birthday, Laura shared snaps of the stunning decorations of edible roses adorning the cake.
Mark Lutton
Mark’s millionaires shortbread was nothing short of sensational.
The budding baker stunned his Instagram followers with his colourful creation that features different toppings on each piece.
Sharing the snap on social media, he penned: “The perfect Sunday always starts with pizza for breakfast. This is my millionaires shortbread.”
Mark is no stranger to baking with pumpkins, either.
He shared a mouth-watering snap of his pumpkin pies that looked too good to eat.
Revealing that he even made the shortcrust pastry himself, he filled with spiced pumpkin purée and topped it with Italian meringue for an extra zest.
For seasonal occasions, Mark even shared his mince pie and macaron mash-ups that seemed to be bursting with flavour.
Dave Friday
Just give Dave a whisk and a sieve, and he’ll take care of the rest.
Dave has created his Instagram followers to his creations in the past, which included a mix of sweet and savoury treats – proving he’s versatile.
He stunned his followers with his fruity Victoria sponge cake that featured strawberries, blueberries and blackberries topped with strawberry sauce.
The two-tiered cake boasted a cream and jam filling, as Dave admitted it was made for a special birthday.
Dave’s Danish cinnamon rolls had everyone talking.
Adorned with the perfect amount of glaze, it’s safe to say he knows a thing or two about presentation.
Finally, Dave showcased his savoury skills with a homemade chicken, bacon and leek pie that looked too good to scoff.
Topped with toasted pastry, it seems as though there really isn’t much Dave can’t do in the kitchen.
Peter Sawkins
Peter is also ready to showcase what he’s got, and he definitely doesn’t shy away from making a pretty cake.
His key lime and mango pie looked to die for and the presentation looked nothing short of perfect.
Teamed with a graham cracker crust, this cake featured a soft and crunchy aspect that is sue to tickle everyone’s taste buds.
Peter also made the perfect pomegranate delice for Christmas Day pudding that simply looked too good to pass up – even after Turkey.
With pistachio pieces, pomegranate seeds and juicy blueberries sitting atop a jelly topping, this cake really showcased what Peter is capable of when the series hits our screens.
To wrap up his baking CV, Peter treated his Instagram followers to his appetising cinnamon palmiers that proved to be the perfect dessert.
Sura
Sura’s incredible lemon and blueberry yogurt loaf looked just as delicious as it sounds.
What’s more, she gave a step-by-step picture guide on how to get the perfect loaf.
Her appetising dessert ended up looking nothing short of scrumptious, and we bet it tasted just as good.
Sura even admitted that the loaf is “perfect for sharing” although that might be a challenge considering how delicious it looks.
Sura sent pulses racing with her stunning layered shortbread, that was adorned with edible pansies, dragonfruit, frosting, strawberries and raspberries.
The two-tier layered shortbread included a creaming frosting centre – yum!
To top her incredible baking talents off, Sura admitted that she knows a thing or two when it comes to baking bread, as she stunned her followers with her blueberry and lime tea loaf.
Marc Elliott
And last but not least, Marc earned his baking stripes with his countless creations – both savoury and sweet.
He really sent pulses racing with his oh-so-crispy sourdough pain au chocolate.
With a buttery crust and base, these pastries looked nothing short of flawless once Marc shared a sneak peek of what it looked like inside.
Toasted to perfection, it’s safe to say Marc’s a real contender when it comes to baking.
His strawberry macaroons looked elegant yet zestful, and the presentation was spot on.
They looked even better considering they were placed on top of a birthday cake.
Marc revealed that the macaroons boasted a delicious strawberry white chocolate ganache in the centre.
Marc also unveiled his skills of baking bagels, and his sourdough bagels with sesame seeds looked stunning.
He went on to add that he likes to dunk his bagels into a big pot of dhal – delish!
