Taking Digital India a step further; Bengaluru Airport Switches To Facial Recognition For Boarding, Passenger Screening
BENGALURU: You will no longer need to lay a long line for boarding passes at Bengaluru Airport. Here the identity of the passengers will be ensured from their faces. Face recognition (FR) system is used at Bangalore Airport. It has become the first airport in the country to implement this system. The FR system for trials is part of the Centre’s Digiatra Yojana. Soon this facility will also be launched at other airports in the country.Based on the face recognition technology, this system will work on biometric software.
How does the FR system work?
- As soon as you book your ticket with any airlines for the air journey starting from Bengaluru Airport, the information related to your journey will be reached with the respective agencies deployed at the airport.
- As soon as you reach the terminal gate of Hyderabad airport, the face recognition camera installed there will recognize your face. As soon as your identity is confirmed, a screen with the camera will display your photo, identity card and all travel related information. During this time, the security officer posted at the gate will neither have to show his air ticket nor be required to show the identity card.
- Like the terminal gate, face recognition cameras will also be available at check-in counters, security check-in points and boarding gates. On arriving at the check-in counter, the face recognition camera will make all the information related to you available to the airline personnel.
- The online boarding pass will arrive on your mobile as soon as you are checked in by the airline staff. Face recognition camera will also ensure your travel details and identification at security check and boarding gate.
