Shiromani Akali Dal also distances itself from BJP on CAA, announces not to contest Delhi elections
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has decided not to contest the Delhi Assembly elections. The SAD has given the reason behind this to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
- alliance with BJP will continue
- cannot be against any religion
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ally Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has decided not to contest the Delhi Assembly elections. The SAD has given the reason behind this to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Party leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa said on Monday that we have taken this decision not with regard to tickets or seats, but about the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). He said that the alliance will continue as before, but we will not contest Delhi elections.
Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that as Shiromani Akali Dal we have an old alliance with BJP but in view of our leader Sardar Sukhbir Badal’s stand on CAA recently, we have decided not to contest elections. He said that SAD believes clearly, we will not allow discrimination on the basis of religion. We used to support CAA but cannot be against any religion.
Standing at your stand
Manjinder Singh Sirsa said, We were in talks with BJP for the last 3 days, but we are not ready to retreat at our stand. This is the reason why it has been decided on the orders of our leader that the Shiromani Akali Dal will distance itself from the assembly elections in Delhi. Let me tell you that Manjinder Singh Sirsa is currently an MLA from Shiromani Akali Dal in Delhi and this time he too has refused to contest elections considering the decision of the party.
No problem on seat sharing
When Manjinder Singh Sirsa was asked whether any decision was to be made on the issue of seat sharing and ticketing with the BJP behind this decision, he flatly denied this. Sirsa said that the matter has not happened on the seat or ticket sharing. Manjinder Singh Sirsa was asked if he would like to go to Shaheen Bagh now, to this, he gave a roundly reply and said that we are in favor of the Citizenship Amendment Act, while the people sitting there are against it. We do not have complete ideological equality with them.
