Miley Cyrus Had a Major Wardrobe Malfunction on New Year’s Eve—and Handled It Perfectly
Miley Cyrus proves—as usual—that she is a consummate professional.
On December 31 into January 1, Cyrus took the stage for her NBC New Year’s Eve special, Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party, not knowing that her entire top would fall off at the end of her performance of “We Can’t Stop.” Just like the title of the song suggests, Cyrus did not miss a beat. As the song transitioned into “Party in the U.S.A.,” the singer continued singing while holding the top to her chest like nothing was wrong until she could make it off stage for a quick change.
After returning in a red blazer, Cyrus joked about the wardrobe malfunction during “Angels Like You,” with a nod to the “Party in the U.S.A” lyrics. “Everybody’s definitely looking at me now,” Cyrus joked, per People. “I’m still in the most clothes that I’ve ever worn on stage.”
Fans were extremely impressed by the way she handled the unexpected moment. “Miley Cyrus just had the biggest save of 2022,” one fan tweeted. Another wrote, “We are 5 minutes into the New Year and Miley Cyrus lost her top on live TV, professionally left the stage, and came back in just a blazer. Iconic.”
At the end of the show, Miley Cyrus thanked viewers of Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party, which aired live on NBC and streamed on Peacock. “Thank you so much, everybody, thank you. Tonight’s show was all about being flexible, rolling with the punches, and making the best out of even the worst circumstances. And that resilience shouldn’t end here. Let’s bring that into the New Year with us,” she said. “We’ve all learned how to expect the unexpected, and rather than see it as a problem, let’s see it as an opportunity. I wish everyone here in Miami and everyone watching from home a happy and healthy 2022. Thank you for making tonight possible. You were really all that I needed to have the ultimate party.”
