Jamiroquai's Jay Kay calls US looters 'freaks' as he talks claims he was there
Jay Kay has hit out at the US looters after he was accused of storming the Capitol.
On Wednesday, supporters of outgoing US President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol building as Congress were completing the proceedings to officially name Joe Biden as the 46th President.
The Jamiroquai singer’s name began to trend on Twitter with pictures of one of the rioters dressed in a costume that got compared to his trademark kooky attire.
He took to Twitter on Thursday to address the speculation, as he codemned the actions of the rioters.
Jay Kay, 51, captioned the video: “Good Morning Washington, loving the headgear, but not sure that’s my crowd. Stay safe everyone, J xxx.”
“Good morning world,” he started the clip, putting on a fake American accent.
“Now some of you may be thinking you saw me in Washington last night, but I’m afraid I wasn’t with all those freaks.”
Jay Kay then dropped the subject and spoke about the UK lockdown.
Yesterday pro-Trump rioters overwhelmed police and stormed the Capitol building while Congress was certifying Biden’s election victory.
Four people died in the riots.
Trump inflamed tensions when he tweeted a video message urging the mob to leave.
He failed to condemn them and instead called them “very special” and said he knew how they felt.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted: “Disgraceful scenes in U.S. Congress.
“The United States stands for democracy around the world and it is now vital that there should be a peaceful and orderly transfer of power.”
