Novak Djokovic, the world’s No. 1 tennis player, has decided to contribute to the fight against the corona virus. The 32-year-old star will give 1 million euros (about Rs 8.3 crore) to his country Serbia. With this money, health equipment will be purchased.
The 17-time Grand Slam winner is currently stranded in Marbella, Spain. Djokovic said in an interview to Serbia’s news channel that this money will be used to buy life-saving respirators and other medical equipment.
He said, ‘I want to thank all the medical staff of my country and all over the world who are helping people in the fight against corona virus.’
He said, ‘Unfortunately every day more and more people are getting infected by it. Me and my wife Yelena were planning how we can use our resources to help the needy.
The deadly corona virus has been declared an epidemic and so far more than 27 thousand people have lost their lives worldwide. So far, 7 deaths have been reported from Corona in Serbia and more than 450 cases have been reported.
