CAA “Name and shame” poster case / Allahabad High Court said – posting of accused posters interfere in privacy, Orders UP government to remove all posters before March 16

Prayagraj The Allahabad High Court on Monday ruled in the matter of placing hoardings of accused of violence during protests of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The court has directed the government to remove the hoardings. The court has ordered the Lucknow DM and Commissioner to give an affidavit before 16 March. In fact, the state government had installed hoardings of people who had damaged public property in the December 19 violence in Lucknow. High Court Chief Justice Govind Mathur took suo motu cognizance in this matter. Despite the leave, a bench of Chief Justice Mathur and Justice Ramesh Sinha heard it on Sunday. The bench had said – the government’s action to put up posters of alleged anti-CAA protesters is highly unjust. It is a violation of the freedom of the people concerned.

The posting of posters is also an insult to the government- High Court

The court told the officials of the state government that no such act should be done, which hurt someone’s heart. The posting of posters is an insult to the government as well as to the citizens. The Chief Justice asked the DM and the Police Commissioner of Lucknow that under which law such posters were put on the streets of Lucknow? He said that it is wrong to put a photo or poster of the person concerned in public place without their permission. This is a violation of the right to privacy.

88 lakhs recovery notice to 57 people


On 19 December 2019, violence was spread in four police station areas of Lucknow after the prayers. Several vehicles were also burnt by vandalists in Thakurganj, Hazratganj, Kesarbagh and Hasanganj. The state government had asked the protesters to make up for the loss. After this, the police sent notices to more than 150 people on the basis of photo-video. After investigation, the administration found 57 people guilty of damaging public property. They were asked to recover the loss of Rs 88,62,537 lakh. Lucknow DM Abhishek Prakash had said – If these people do not pay the fine on time, then their property will be attached.

People involved in hoarding said – threat of mob lynching

Those whose pictures have been put on the hoarding include former IPS SR Darapuri, activist Sadaf Zafar and Deepak Kabir. Kabir said- Government is creating an atmosphere of fear. Mob lynching can occur anywhere from those involved in hoarding. The atmosphere has not remained safe after the Delhi violence. The government is working to endanger everyone….
