Amazon India Head Manish Tiwary Resigns
Amazon stated that Mr. Tiwary has assumed another role elsewhere but did not provide further details.
Manish Tiwary, the country head of Amazon India, has resigned after an eight-year tenure and will depart the company in October, Amazon announced on Tuesday. His resignation comes as Amazon is rapidly expanding in India, planning to invest $26 billion by 2030, while navigating a stringent regulatory environment that restricts it to operating solely as a marketplace.
Tiwary has chosen to pursue a new opportunity outside of Amazon, the company said, though specific details about his future role were not provided. He will remain with Amazon until October to facilitate a smooth transition. Tiwary did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Reuters was the first to report on Tiwary’s departure earlier on Tuesday. Amazon has not yet announced a successor for the position of country head in India, according to a source familiar with the matter.
Amit Agarwal, senior vice president for emerging markets, will continue to work closely with the India team, as highlighted by Amazon in its statement. The company emphasized that “India is an important priority.”
The e-commerce giant is currently under investigation for alleged antitrust violations, specifically accusations of favoring select sellers on its Indian platform, which Amazon denies.
In 2021, Reuters reported that Amazon engaged in a systematic campaign to create knockoff goods and manipulate search results to promote its own product lines in India. Amazon has denied these allegations, asserting that it does not engage in such practices.
