Caitlyn Jenner gushes over 'smart, classy' Kris Jenner and how the momager created his comeback

Caitlyn Jenner split from Kris Jenner in 2016.

And now the former Olympian has talked to The Skinny Confidential Him & Her with Lauryn Evarts and Michael Bosstick about how the athlete and the Keeping Up With The Kardashians producer fell in love in 1990.

‘For me, she was very different. She was very classy, had a great sense of style. She was very smart,’ the I Am Cait star said of the brunette beauty.

‘I always liked strong women and she was very strong. I have always put kind of women up on a pedestal and I’d love strong women, uh, independent women,’ it was shared. 

‘And she was all of those things and she was very different for me. I mean, you know, she lived in Beverly Hills and I’m not a Beverly Hills person.’

The two wed in 1991 after Kris had divorced lawyer Robert Kardashian with whom she had four kids: Kourtney, Kim, Khloe and Rob. 

Kris and Caitlyn – who went by Bruce Jenner at the time – went on to have two children: Kendall and Kylie. 

Caitlyn said on the podcast that when they met, Kris was in a tough place. ‘She had just been going through a divorce. And, um, no, we just kind of hit it off from the beginning and then-‘

Host Lauryn interrupted: ‘And she kind of like helped you. I feel like it seemed, and you helped her in a way, like really create this massive-‘

Caitlyn then said: ‘Yes, brand. Oh, she did? Yes. Oh God. Yes.’

And Kris got him to work harder. 

‘I had not really, for those six years, I was hanging out in a leased house in Malibu, not really been motivated to work,’ Jenner shared.

‘And then I’m thinking, Oh boy, okay. I would get married, pick up four more kids. I have four, I got to get back to work. And so Kris and I talked about that a lot. She goes, well, um, I’m going to take it over. I’m going to run this thing. And I go, Oh, okay, go do it…’

Kris was finding ways to cash in. 

‘I had done a lot of public speaking. I do motivational speaking for, you know, ever since 19, my first Olympics in 1972,’ said Cait. ‘And that always has been, that was just kind of the constant, it was always there speaking engagements, but I had not done much because I just hadn’t been motivated at all. She goes, wow, we’re going to start with that.’

Kris made up ‘these beautiful brochures’ and started sending them out to speakers, bureaus, and making contacts. ‘And all of a sudden speaking started coming back. And then we started in the first year, the infomercial world early nineties was just getting started. And I was asked to do this infomercial with a stair column or plus I thought, why not?’

Kris was also in the infomercial: ‘It was so funny. She was so bad.’

Jenner added: ‘She was a Beverly Hills housewife. She had never, she’d never been like speaking in front of a camera, like looking at a camera and being, you know, yourself and this and that. So the first I stood behind the camera and I’m watching her first on camera and I went, Oh my God. God, it didn’t even sound like you, who was that person that was talking there.

‘And, and anyway, I said, try to help her get her calm down – eventually she got really good, just like all my kids, they got really good and that was kind of the beginning. 

‘And then that started generating something and that has led to other things, to other things, to other things and to, you know, eventually the show [KUWTK].

Caitlyn also touched on transitioning in the wide-ranging interview.

‘I did play around with my mom or my sisters clothes or this or that when nobody was around, I was always fascinated by that. But taboo, you don’t get caught.’ said Cait.

And they were never suspicious.

‘She never did. Um, my mom never knew to the day I told her, well, when she was, uh, 88, 89 she’s 94 now… She had no idea. Yeah. Nobody did my sister, my older sister. I had told her 30 years earlier when we were at dinner and I said, you know what? I want to talk to you about some something I’ve been dealing with forever. And we talked about it and she was like, in shock, I go, please.’ 

Her mother reacted with: ‘Oh my God, what am I, girlfriend’s going to say. And my first thought was, I really don’t care what your girlfriends are going to say. It’ll be okay. I guarantee it you’ll be okay. And honestly, everybody through this whole thing, the whole family and everybody that’s close, honestly, I’m a better person this way.’  

As far as the kids, Caitlyn said: ‘I have amazing, amazing children. Which I’m so extraordinarily proud of. I mean, that’s the greatest thing I’ve done in my life is my kids.’
