The Secretary of Transportation, Elaine chao, is the first cabinet member to resign from her post, after the violent seizure of the Capitol by supporters of the president Donald trump.
“Yesterday, our country experienced a traumatic and totally avoidable event when supporters of the president attacked the Capitol building after the rally he attended … it has caused conflict in a way that I simply cannot put aside,” he said.
She is the first senior official to resign, although at least four Trump Administration aides have left their posts.

Chao adds that she is proud of her work at the head of the Department of Transportation and said that she will keep in touch with Pete buttigieg, nominated by the president-elect Joe biden, to achieve an efficient transition.
“I wish you all the best,” he said.
The official is the wife of the Republican leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell (Kentucky), who was considered one of President Trump’s main allies to stop the Democratic agenda in Congress, but his distance became more acute after the electoral process, as the senator did not want to support the fraud theory.
