Eamonn Holmes makes wild confession that he doesn't know how to tie shoelaces
Fan of Eamonn Holmes will be surprised to learn that he has no idea how to tie his own shoelaces – or those of anyone else, for that matter.
The 61-year-old TV legend says his bizarre inability is all effectively down to being truly spoiled by his loving mum in his childhood.
Eagle eyed fans may be able to verify Eamonn’s claim that he is only ever spotted out wearing slip-on shoes, as he doesn’t know how to tie his laces.
The presenter says he never learned how to do it as his mum, Josie, always tied his laces for him growing up – leading to a disadvantage in adulthood in which he can’t operate laced footwear.
Asked by the Daily Star Sunday which life skill he wished he had mastered, he replied: “Shoe laces”.
He continued: “As a result, I only wear slip-ons. Irish mammies have a lot to answer for… doing everything for their sons in particular.”
Eamonn could perhaps test the adage ‘you’re never too old to try something new’ – as he certainly has more time on his hands to learn new skills.
The TV host and his wife, Ruth Langsford, were recently axed by ITV from the This Morning line-up.
The duo broadcast their last ever slot as hosts last year following 21 years of appearing on the ITV morning magazine show.
Eamonn himself featured on the show from 2006 – while 60-year-old wife Ruth appeared on the famous sofas from 1999.
Loyal fans of the couple have launched a petition to try to force ITV to reinstate the pair to their weekly Friday morning hosting slot.
Distressed fan Fiona Laurie launched the petition via Change.org, writing: “Ruth Langsford & Eamonn Holmes have been dropped from their Friday slot on This Morning after 14 years. The support this couple has from viewers has been seriously misjudged.”
She continued: “Yes, Eamonn can say some unfortunate things but we love him and it is a joy to watch Ruth try to save him.
“A real couple with a magic that cannot be replaced. I urge you to support this because if we do and say nothing we cannot be heard and we owe Ruth & Eamonn this much.”
The legendary couple have since been replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.
