Seven people shot inside Milwaukee funeral home as police hunt for gunman

Seven people were shot at a Wisconsin funeral home Wednesday, officials say.
The shooting broke out at about 12.45pm during a funeral at the Serenity Funeral Home located at the 4200 block of West Fond Du Lac Avenue in Milwaukee.
A car pulled up in front of the funeral home where mourners were gathered and opened fire, wounding seven.
The victims were between 24 and 48 years old. All have been hospitalized and are in stable condition and expected to survive.

Acting Chief Michael Brunson reported that all the victims have been hospitalized and are in stable condition. He asked the public for help in identifying the unknown shooter
The shooting took place during a funeral for 26-year-old Braxton Taylor, who was shot to death on September 17, but it’s unclear if the funeral and the shooting are connected.
Brunson said shots were fired inside and outside the funeral home.
A hearse outside the funeral home that appeared to have bullet holes in it and windows shot out, according to WISN.
Witnesses reported seeing people running out of the funeral home bleeding.
Police are at the scene and sources say there were more than 100 witnesses to the shooting.
‘Our prayers are with the victims and their family members during this terrible time,’ Acting Chief Michael Brunson said in a press conference Wednesday afternoon.
‘This is an untenable situation, this brazen act that was done in broad daylight is unacceptable in our city. We are working feverishly to identify who committed this act,’ Brunson added.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett condemned the shooting as ‘insanity’.
‘It’s the insanity of people solving their problems with guns. It’s just completely insane and we’re seeing way too much of that in this community this year,’ Mayor Barrett said at the scene.
Barrett said that shootings in Milwaukee had declined in the past several years, only for them to skyrocket this year.
As of September 10, 446 non-fatal shooting victims were recorded in Milwaukee – a 70 percent jump from the same time last year.
