Chelsea transfer round-up: Two exits look likely while defender move stalls

[ad_1]

Chelsea have already splashed the cash this summer, with Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva pushing to join fellow new arrivals Kai Havertz and Timo Werner in playing their first competitive minutes for the club.

Hakim Ziyech has also joined up with the squad after arriving in a big-money move from Ajax, while goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is poised to join from Rennes in Ligue 1.

With a big summer of spending almost done, Chelsea may yet end up parting ways with some players, and there has been interest in a number of their squad members.

We’ve got the latest on three men who have been linked with September departures from Stamford Bridge, either permanently or on loan.

Bayern revive Hudson-Odoi interest and target loan move

Hudson-Odoi could part ways with the Blues

Bayern Munich have made a habit of signing top attacking midfielders on loan in recent years, with Philippe Coutinho, Ivan Perisic and James Rodriguez among those to move to the Allianz Arena on temporary deals.

The next man to make such a move could be Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi, who was previously the target of Bayern interest in 2019.

According to the Telegraph, some of Bayern’s squad have discussed the possibility of moving for the England winger after Coutinho and Perisic both returned to their parent clubs at the end of the 2019/20 season.

The 19-year-old has played just 10 minutes of Premier League football this season following the arrival of Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen, but Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has revealed he will give Hudson-Odoi a chance to play himself into starting contention as the Blues take on Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.

“He has to show in every minute, on and off the ball, what he can do for the team and at the minute, that’s the position Callum is at,” Lampard said.

Everton cool interest in Chelsea man Tomori

Tomori came on at half-time of the defeat to Liverpool

Chelsea centre-back Fikayo Tomori had been linked with a loan move to Everton as the Merseyside club attempts to deal with injuries to defenders Mason Holgate and Jarrad Branthwaite.

The pair have both been sidelined, leaving Everton light at the back, but their interest in Tomori appears to have diminished.

“We do know that Everton wanted to sign a top central defender this summer,” the Athletic’s David Ornstein said on his Ask Ornstein YouTube Q&A.

“They were close on Gabriel, who ended up joining Arsenal, and whether that happens now might depend on if they’re able to get their top target – I just don’t know who that is.

“We know there were talks over a Tomori loan, but I’m not sure Frank Lampard was ever overly keen on that. In terms of the Everton interest in Tomori, we’re also hearing that has cooled.”

Lampard is believed to be a fan of the centre-back, having worked with him at Derby before integrating him into Chelsea’s first team last season.

PSG still in race for Blues midfielder

Bakayoko has been frozen out at Chelsea

While it has looked for much of the window as though Tiemoue Bakayoko would be an AC Milan player for the 2020/21 season, delays to the completion of a move have seen Paris Saint-Germain re-enter the reckoning.

PSG sporting director worked with the Chelsea midfielder when the pair were together in Milan during the 2018/19 season, and reports in France suggest the Brazilian could make a late play for a reunion.

According to Le Parisien, via Sport Witness, an English source has revealed there is a ‘serious’ route to Paris for the French international, who spent last season on loan at Monaco.

PSG would reportedly prefer a loan, while Chelsea’s priority remains a permanent exit for a man who cost them £40m when he joined from Monaco in 2017.

Milan are believed to still be interested despite adding central midfielder Sandro Tonali to their ranks, but a PSG deal is being presented as realistic.
