Arsenal ‘could sell Alexandre Lacazette’ to fund £54m Houssem Aouar transfer

Arsenal are reportedly willing to sell Alexandre Lacazette to help them towards signing Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.

With less than two weeks until the transfer window closes, time is running out for clubs to improve their squads and Arsenal have been looking to make additions to their midfield throughout the summer.

Aouar has been top of Arsenal’s wishlist but Lyon’s high asking price as so far proved prohibitive.

Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey has a release clause which the Spanish club are steadfastly sticking to.

It means for Arsenal to sign Aouar and Partey, players need to be sold.

And according to the Independent, Lacazette, who has two years left on his contract and renewal talks have not begun, is among the players who could be moved on to enable a move for Aouar.

Meanwhile, Arteta expressed his delight at how his players performed in their 2-0 win over Leicester in Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

A Christian Fuchs own goal and a late Eddie Nketiah’s strike were enough to put Arsenal in the fourth round and Arteta was elated at the display.

“I am really pleased with the performance, as well as the mindset and the approach that the players had towards the game,” Arteta told Arsenal.com.

“Sometimes they tend to relax in this competition, but the senior players took it really seriously and the young boys, you saw how they played.

“I think we controlled large periods of the game and we were very efficient with our high press.

“I think we had some really good moments with the ball that we could have scored more goals and created more openings, so overall I’m really happy with the performance.

“When you win, you have to keep trying to win because things change really quickly.
