Liverpool ‘using Sadio Mane’ in Kalidou Koulibaly transfer bid

[ad_1]

Liverpool had a frantic week with the signings of Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota.

The Reds sprung into life to splash around £65million on the two attacking signings – and they might not be done yet.

According to French outlet Le Parisien, the Reds have not given up hope of landing Napoli’s colossal centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly to partner with Virgil van Dijk.

And it is claimed they are using Koulibaly’s Senegal team-mate, Sadio Mane, in a bid to convince him to make an Anfield move this summer.

Mane is close to Koulibaly from their time on international duty, and the Reds reportedly have not given up hopes he could persuade him to change his mind over his future.

Koulibaly has been strongly linked with Paris Saint-Germain and it is claimed he has agreed some contractual terms in principle with Liverpool ’s title rivals, Manchester City, although a deal is not yet done.

Liverpool have already been left short at the heart of defence after the departure of Dejan Lovren.

Injuries to Joel Matip and Joe Gomez saw Fabinho step in as emergency cover against Chelsea last weekend.

And although a partnership with Koulibaly would cause plenty of excitement, Van Dijk was delighted with the contribution of Fabinho as he nullified Timo Werner at Stamford Bridge.

“Outstanding,” the Dutchman told  Liverpoolfc.com  of Fabinho after the game.

“I just told him as well I think he was Man of the Match. To keep out a striker like [Timo] Werner and don’t let him score, overall he was outstanding.

“Everyone knows how good he is but it shows also that we need everyone. We are a bit unlucky with the injuries now but we’ll need everyone back because it’s such a long season.”
